[QUOTE]I'm lanning on wearing my wedding gown (which I HOPE I pick out this week!) to every single wedding we're invited to from here on out.  Fvck that.

See, I can't do this. My wedding dress was light blue and knee length. No one would even know I was stealing their thunder. Clearly I didn't think things through when I bought my dress.

And - I don't think she bought the ring to out-do you, either.  I know with my mother, she just really wanted a nice ring.

If you go through life trying to get things that are better than everyone else's, or get upset when someone gets something that's better than what you have, you're going to lead a pretty miserable existence.

Maybe you could wear a sash that says "I'm the Bride!".  I saw one this weekend that said "Wild Bride".

S**T like this always happens between flambouyant parents and practical children.  It is only funny on TV.

The timing of the purchase of the gigantic ring is suspect.  Very suspect.

Yes, clearly any purchase your mother makes between now and your wedding is to show you up. Maybe you should tell her that she needs to clear all purchases with you before making them.

    You're right.

I suspect that your mom has been plotting to upstage you since the day you were born.  She probably wished and hoped for a daughter so that one day, she could steal your spotlight.  I bet she's been doing it your whole life.  Remember that second grade recital when she showed up in a tutu?  Bitch.

To me you're really coming across as very proud and very jealous.  Too proud to accept your mother's offer to help with your wedding, and yet, jealous with how she chooses to spend it on herself.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Mothers may mean well, but sometimes... : We had a ton of trick-or-treaters come by the store today, most were so cute!!! But some were little brats who said "NO I WANT THIS ONE!! NOT THAT ONE!!!!!!" and then reached their little grimy hands into the bucket and dug out a handful. I ate way too much candy today.

I hate those kids.  How's about you be grateful before I kick you, punk?

It's still pretty early, but I'm worried we won't get any trick or treaters since we are in a townhouse complex, and we don't face the main street.  Last year we were in an apartment and we didn't get any there either.  I'm holding out hope that we will get a few leaving from the complex on their way out to the larger parts of the neighborhood.

We live in an apartment so we won't be getting any. It's probably better because I'm exhausted today, I was at work doing inventory until 1:30 a.m. last night.

The cute kids made the day better, though! Which is weird because I don't usually like kids.... eek!

But I am very sorry about your FI's illness.  Focus on him and enjoy your planning rather than some petty BS about your mom's ring.  You guys should be enjoying each other.

Ha! I wish my mother went to recitals.  It was always the nanny at the recitals.  I don't think my parents ever went to a teacher conference or packed me a lunch.

Oh, it's funny now, but not funny three years ago.  My sister bought a Toyota, my father bought a Mustang a week later.

I would not be surprised if my parents would bribe the DJ to play one of my father's old songs (he was in a band), so he could sing at the wedding reception all night.  Flambouyant.
