Snarky Brides

Tacocat!!

I'm looking through the Good Reads clubs and one of them based out of my city has a picture of Tacocat as their avatar! I got really excited until I realized it probably wasn't run by our Tacocat :(

I also had a really great topic I wanted to talk about tonight, which I was going to write down so I didn't forget, but I forgot to write it down :(

That's it.

Re: Tacocat!!

  • Oh no. I want to know what the topic is.   : (
  • Now I want tacos.

  • Controversial topic?
    Fun topic?
    Risqué topic?

I bet I remember it at 1 in the morning.

I did read an article about creating real zombies though which was interesting, but not the topic.
  • I have a scary topic.

A kid was found to have a notebook with detailed plans on how to assemble bombs and where to place them throughout the school.  He also collected and printed pictures of a teacher and pasted them in the notebook.  They found a weapon in his locker (but we don't know what the weapon was).  He is in my last period class. :\
  • Ugh Nates. We had a bomb thread scratched into one of our bathroom stalls. They pulled this shiit last year too.

I got to play teacher again today. Fun times.
  • Who is "they" and why haven't they told the teachers what kind of weapon it was?  Isn't that info you kind of need in order to be more diligent about keeping an eye out for that kind of thing?
  • Holy crap, Nates, that is scary. I hope he was arrested or baker acted or something.

This is totally different, but your story reminded me. On Tuesday 2 6th graders were hit outside of the school where my mom works. A 70 year-old guy was going 40 in the school zone. One girl saw the car coming and pushed her friend out of the way, then got hit herself and went up onto the hood. A second girl was thrown onto the sidewalk. But here's the crazy thing. The old guy KEPT DRIVING with the girl on the hood because he "was scared and didn't know what to do."

The girls will be fine, but holy Hera. Those poor kids.
  • Geez, Nates. That's horrific. I'd be kind of annoyed if they weren't giving me enough details about it.

The kid has already been arrested and sent into  a psych ward (I found out today--it happened Wednesday). I'm thinking they didn't tell us about the weapon because it was in his locker (they probably caught it on camera) and he's already been pulled from school.  He's also classified (He was a selective mute for four years and has an intense history of abuse), so there are legal/confidentiality issues.  It was scary as hell to find out.  I can't imagine if I were the guy he had all the pics of.

We get those all the time, but this kid actually had plans, which terrified me.  He's very, very bright, so I could completely see him rationally planning and executing something like that.

One year we were evacuated about 7 times for bomb threats and they only stopped when we held kids after school to make up time.  Last year, we had a device planted next to the school, but it ended up being made incorrectly, so they "detonated" it.  Still fvcking scary, though.
  • Gosh that's crazy.  Poor kid.

Oh my God! That poor girl!  She was so brave to push her friend out of the way.

I feel bad saying it, but so many elderly people need to be monitored/retested for the licenses. Jeez

I know.  And I felt so hopeful because he stayed after school with me at the beginning of the year so I could help him with some stuff.  He would participate in my class every single day, so I thought he was on a good path, after not speaking for so long.  TO think, all the time he had been planning all of this stuff.
  • My Granny is 85 and still drives.  She had to do a driving test in May when she renewed her license.  She's funny, after it was over (she passed) she said she was glad they made her do it because "you know those old people can't drive".

Ha!  My grandmother would say the same thing.  She always complained about the people in the community she lived in, saying "These old people are so depressing!"
  • Nates- That is awful. How scary. That kid needs some serious help as well. Selective mutism? That's pretty damn rare.
Honestly, I want to work with kids that have these issues, so they can make different choices.

Sesh- Holy crap! Poor little girls. It's amazing that they are okay.

I know.  Imagine what he bottled up for four years of his life.  He's only 16.  I feel so bad for him and, at the same time, am so afraid of what he's capable of doing.
