rock climbing?

So on saturday H and I went indoor rock climbing with a large group of friends for one of our friend's 25th bday. We'd never done it before- SOOOO FUN! Has anyone here done it? My arms and legs are killing me still but I am dying to do it again!

Re: rock climbing?

  • When I was in school, I took rock climbing class for two semesters. It was awesome. We got to free climb after taking the safety and technique classes. We would go three times a week. There are a lot of places out here that you can get a pass to and go however often you want.

  • I love it!  I can't get my H into it all all and that bums me out.  I'm trying to convince him to do some bouldering with me.  It's harder but closer to the ground.  :)
  • I've never done it but I go to the local YMCA to work out and they have a rock climbing wall there... I've always wanted to try it!  Hmm, you may have motivated me to look more into this.

When I finished hiking in the Grand Canyon I was so sore I thought I would die - but I would totally do it again!  So I kinda know how you feel :)

  • jc- I rode a mechanical bull a long time ago for a friend's bach party. It was wild :)

  • AATB- doooooooooo it. It was a rush. we were there about 2 hours and got in about 4 climbs on various walls. There were about 10 of us so we were a little limited. H and I want to go back just us and take a class.

  • I want to try a wall, but I'm way too afraid of heights to climb an actual rock.

  •  My high school had an indoor wall.  I tried climbing it once.  I'm afraid of heights so I got about 3 feet off the ground and froze.  I don't think rock climbing is for me.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I've done it with FI, and he is the much more experienced climber between us. I'm pretty afraid of heights, but since rock climbing is safe, I can usually accomplish some things and feel like I fought my fears a bit. I can't get over how much I always hurt the day after though - even my finger muscles get sore!

  • My H wants to go. There's a really great gorge a couple hours from us. But I am terrified of heights. So I just can't see that happening.

  • I'm not good at many things sports-related, but rock climbing is something I can actually do, and do well. We don't have any places here that I know about, but I've been meaning to look into it because H loves it too. We used to have a wall during Bike Week down at the boardwalk that I would do, and it was great to beat all the guys on the "master" side. For my tiny girly arms, I am surprisingly able to hoist myself up.

Ooh, and mechanical bulls are awesome. I love them. I haven't been on one in years. H saw me on one once and thought it was the sexiest thing ever.
  • My stepson is a big climber, and his girlfriend is a world-class climbing competitor.  I don't care for it, but I'll go watch and belay for him and DH when they want to go to the gym or go bouldering outside.

  • I think I would be afraid to do it outside.. I need to do it indoors more because I feel all safe on those walls with the cushioned floor below :-P It was a nice test of strength though. I enjoyed making it up a couple walls my guy friends couldn't. Looks like all the pre-wedding training paid off!

  • Yeah the wall, to me, looks safer.

When we were hiking in the canyon it would drive me CRAZY when my sisters, my dad, or my freaking 72 year old great uncle would get too close to the edge of the canyon.  I know they wanted to look out but my God, get away from the edge.  You can see it just as well from the safety of the trail!

When I'm strapped into something - like a roller coaster or a harness - heights don't freak me out as much.

  • I'm actually going to my first rock climbing class tomorrow night.  I'm super excited about it.  Although, also a wee bit scared of how sore I'm going to be afterwards.

I actuallly never thought about the height thing scaring me.  Hopefully it won't!
