Poll

Just for fun.  I'm always curious to hear these answers.

Re: Poll

  • I will answer your poll when you answer my question in the table topics thread.

  • I didn't see it!  And now I answered, so there!
  • I call it stuffing no matter if it was prepared inside or outside the bird.  Stovetop Stuffing is not called Stovetop Dressing, and it is not prepared in the bird. That's my argument.

  • Mmmmmm, stuffing! I prefer it cooked outside the bird because it gets way too soggy inside. I like the crunchy bits off the top from when it's baked.

<div>Agreed!  My grandma always did both to have extra and the dish baked was my favorite for the same reason.</div>

My mother always called it dressing, she made 2 kinds, regular and oyster dressing.

But this evening as I was looking at recipes we called it stuffing.

<div>Hi Jmuck!  No lurking! Come play with us sometime.</div>
  • Dressing!   Us Southerners always call it dressing, and make it with cornbread!
  • I usually cook the extra STUFFING in a dish.  I put the innards (gizzard, neck, liver, etc...) from the turkey on top so it still gets a little turkey flavor.

<div>I always use cornbread.  It's the best!   And sausage and sage for that matter.</div>

    I'm lurking too :)

But we call it stuffing... usually. Anything 'normal' is called stuffing, whether its cooked inside the bird or not (we actually never cook it inside the turkey).... but we also make oyster dressing. Which I think is gross... but the point is that it is either stuffing, or oyster dressing. Lol. Regional thing maybe? Almost everyone around here refers to it the same way.

We ALWAYS have oyester dressing and I LOVE it. We always have 3 or 4 different dressings, so it seems weird to call them stuffing when it's not being stuffed.

But now that I think about it, I do interchange them some.
  • We always called it stuffing, because most of it came out of the bird.  My Dad would also cook the extra in a separate pan, but it was all called stuffing.

  • We always call it stuffing. We used to make a small amount of "wet stuffing", which was in the bird and then a big bowl of regular stuffing. Over the years we've nixed the wet stuffing because of family members with celiac who come to celebrate Thanksgiving with us.

  • I have always called it dressing.

We use plain white sandwhich bread slightly dried out on the counter.  Then dip it in chicken stock with the extra squeezed out and then tear it into small pieces in some sauteed onions.  Then top it with some dried out sage and fry it until the bread is nice and crispy on the outside.  I am sure my Mom puts other things into it but I can't quite remember what they are.  This is the only kind of dressing I like because 1) I hate the mushy wet dressing, ick and 2) because my Mom's food is the best food :)
