Snarky Brides

What do you think of this offbeat ceremony music choice?

I have always loved doing things a little different, so with the ceremony music I wanted to walk down the aisle to Love and Marriage by Frank Sinatra. I think the song is so cute, and funny.(I am sure most of you know this as the theme song to Married With Children.) So I decided maybe it was a little too funny for such a serious moment, but I still wanted it to be the song for the bridesmaids. Mom said this was trashy. Is it really that bad of an idea for an outdoor ceremony?

  • That song will always make me think of Al Bundy.

  • 'Fraid I agree with mom.
  • I'm sorry I'm taking your mothers side here. Maybe play it at the reception?

Yeah....Ed O'Neill with his hand down his pants.  Not so much romantic.  If you and your FH like it, do it.  It might go over like a lead balloon with the more traditional guests, but it's all about you and your FH.  Another option is to have that be the intro song played when the wedding party is announced....

  • Could it be your song for walking back up the aisle after the ceremony?
  • I don't like it for the ceremony.  It would make me think of the show, and that wouldn't be a good thing.

  • I guess everyone is right. I know everyone is right. I will figure out how to play it at the reception and not the ceremony. Now to research actual ceremony music.
It helps hearing this from others, as you know how hard it can be to take Mom's advice.
  • I'm not sure if this is much better (because, really, that song just reminds me of one of the worst sitcoms ever made), but could you find a nice music-only version of the song?  No lyrics or singing, but just the melody?  That *may* be a decent compromise.  Maybe.
  • I really liked the show, so I didn't have too much of a problem with it. I need to remember not everyone is a fan.  So I guess the Full House theme garter toss is out? Just kidding on the FH.=)

Indoor ceremony. Outdoor ceremony. Wherever you did it, it would be trashy.

  • oooh... now I'm singing the Full House theme instead of Married with Children.  Thank you!!

    ...everywhere you look...
  • I'm with everyone else, here.  If you are doing an entrance at the reception, you could play if for that.
  • I don't think I will use it much now. You are all reminding me how crude the show actually was. I am sure if I would have done this many people would have looked at this as WTH. I meant it to be sweet and funny, not tacky and trashy.
Good thing I didn't keep this a secret from everyone.
  • I liked the show, it's a ginormous hit in Russia right now

I wouldn't - too tacky for the ceremony.  Especially if your guests wouldn't get it.  I attended a wedding where they played Johnny Cash "Ring of Fire" at the reception.  It was very funny, even though a few guests looked a little puzzled.

    There's a heart...a hand to hold onto.

    For some reason I desperately needed to finish that line <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

My friend used this song at the end of her ceremony. Now when I see Ring Of Fire singing cards I think of her.

All I need to do is move the wedding to Russia. As far as my guest list goes, I am willing to be about thirty percent would get the sweet/funny factor. I have to remember I do have some "klassy" people coming to the wedding-darn it!=)
When I was a kid, I told my Mom my dream wedding was a simple party where I served cottage cheese with black pepper on white paper plates. Mom and Dad would be on opposite sides of the room since at the time they beat the crap out of each other.(I was four when I came up with this glam wedding concept.)

  • Frank Sinatra sang more than one song. Lots of them are cute or funny. What about something like "Come Fly with Me"?

Nothing wrong with nontraditional in general. We are using Blues Traveler's "Hook" as our recessional because it's the same chords as Pachelbel's Canon, and to kind of poke fun at wedding cliches. Out of the 85 people there, maybe three people will get it. But that's okay with us.

  • I agree with PPs that this song will conjure up images of Married with Children. Perhaps you could use it for your reception entrance, when you are announced as Mr. and Mrs. (or Ms.)? I feel like that's the part where you can go a little crazy and do whatever you want in the celebratory spirit.

H and I used "I Believe in and Thing Called Love" by The Darkness for our reception entrance, because we frickin love that song, but it wasn't the best to walk down the aisle to. ;)

  • I've been to many weddings lately where the ceremony music wasn't traditional... From what I saw, many people enjoyed it. In one case, the groom walked down the asile to "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley... Another wedding I went to, when they were introduced at their reception they came out to "Another One Bites the Dust"... People seemed to really enjoy the different change of music... I'm not exactly sure of your song choice, but, I've seen it done previously and it was a hit.

  • I think it would be cute if not for the MWC referrence.

We didn't use traditional music, so I'm biased.
  • Thanks everyone for all the advice. I am going to research other ceremony music and see what my options are. Hopefully I can find a happy middle ground.
I will not be doing any Chris Brown fun type songs, shoegal.=) I think I am more attracted to music from movies and televison shows...so that is my own weakness. Plus, my groom and I are not the hip types to play something like Dave Matthews, we would just look really silly at that point. Totally not trying to have the"best" wedding music ever, so it is not like I am trying to top every wedding I've been too.
