Attention... online shoppers?

There are lots of nice shops around where I live but I'm going to be frank - I'm lazy.  My mom, who lives back home in our po-dunk small town, doesn't understand why I'm not out shopping constantly.  Well, other than the fact that I don't make a lot of extra money to be spending - I just honestly never feel like it.  Whatever.

But I adore shopping online.  I can shop when I'm at work during my down times.  Something doesn't fit or isn't what I expected?  Seal it up, send it back, money goes back on the credit card - excellent.

I have several things picked out online - a birdcage veil, wedding jewelry, a couple gifts, some pearl hair pins, other wedding accessories and such.  Haven't bought anything yet since I'm still looking around - but I know my mom is going to harp on me about where I got my stuff and I tell her I did it on the internets.

Am I alone in my love for internet shopping?

Re: Attention... online shoppers?

  • I love internet shopping but don't do it often because I'm a penny pincher.
No one understood why I wasn't super excited about wedding shopping, seeing venues, cakes, etc. I just don't find joy in buying things (money guilt afterwards) and I hate dealing with strangers.
  • I like to online shop sometimes. I normally shop online at Old Navy only because when I go into their stores I can never find anything that's on sale. Their clearance ranks are always a mess. I get email updates at work when they are having a sale. It also didn't suck they everything shipped for $5 and that includes stuff you buy from The Gap, Banana Republic and Piperlime.
  • Nope, i love online shopping.

You get to shop without pressure.  H and I were at Lowe's last weekend just to early browse prices and ideas for next year's home project (brick patio with built in fire pit and wall seating) and during the 15 minutes we were there, we were approached 13 times by people who not only asked if they could help us but insisted on "showing us around" when we said we were just browsing.  We just wanted to be left alone to talk about our plans.  Apparently, "no thanks, we're fine" doesn't cut it anymore.
  • I'm an internet window shopper. I love to look at things, but I am gun shy about buying it unless I can try it one, hold it, etc.

Exactly.  I don't like store clerks - which is unfair, because, it's their job - but I hate getting asked all the time if I need help, or if I need this, or that.  I like doing it by myself.

And when I actually DO need help?  There isn't a clerk in sight.

  • I love to shop in person, but often have to shop on-line because I'm nearly 6 feet tall.  It irritates me that I have to pay for shipping because of a few inches.

  • I love online shopping, wedding related items: purchased at beau-coup, exclusively weddings and efavormart.com.

I didn't find them to be expensive plus had coupon from beau-coup which was great !

Got personalized petals, candle favors, even my shoes I purchased online...no complaints.
  • internet shopping FTW!  I am an etsy JUNKIE!!!  I intend to get my BM gifts from etsy.  I'm waiting to hear back from a jewelry designer I like.  I emailed her like a month ago.... if I don't hear soon, I'm finding another one and she loses.

Agreed. When I was working at PetSmart they came out with a new rule, called the 10/10 rule. You had 10 seconds to greet customers within 10 feet of you. If you didn't you would be disciplined, it was that stupid. We never did it at my store under the old Director and when we got a new one he insisted on doing it. I told him he would do it for 3 days before giving up. He approaches his first customer, a 30 something woman picking up cat litter "Hi there m'am, would you like some help with that?" "No I don't want any help, I'm perfectly capable of picking up my own goddamn litter." He approaches a second customer "Hi there Sir, could I help you find anything today?" "I've got eyes don't I? Go bother someone else."

    I love Home Depot. The people there know us now <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" />

Lol Katie that is fecking hilarious.  I ALWAYS want to come back and say something snotty to clerks when they say something like that - but I always stop myself because I do know that they're supposed to offer their help.  But jeez.  I'm capable of finding things I want or need and if I do need help, I'll come find you.

And I don't mind paying shipping costs for my online shopping sprees - it's a convenience of not having to go out and shop that I will gladly pay for.

  • I love any kind of shopping.  I go out shopping at least 3 times a week, even if it's just looking.  I'm always looking for on-line deals too.  I'm a shopaholic

Yeah, we had one manager who asked a customer for help and they said "no I'm fine". Ok cool he went to do something else. About 10 minutes later they had a question and found a different employee because manager was busy with someone else. He got his ass handed to him by the DM for not asking "probing questions" before leaving the customer.

I hate that about furniture stores/carpet stores. We are looking at putting in new carpet in December (Christmas present from my parents). It will take us 5 months to agree on a color. The sales people are so pushy and it's like, no , we're just looking at colors, go away now.
  • Macy's has the best workpants for me, but my size is never in stores. I usually buy $100 worth of stuff just to get the free shipping and then return what I don't want to the store. Shipping is beeotch at some places.

I had to pay $30 to ship my chocolate bar favors from WFC. My brain almost exploded when I saw the shipping charges. Since it was June, they had to ship the stuff in dry ice, which was what made it so expensive.

  • I live and die by Amazon.com
  • You can't find a store clerk when you need one because they're "busy" hiding in the back so they don't have to bother customers. I worked at a grocery store that required you to go up to everyone and anyone and ask 100s of questions (but you weren't allowed to carry a conversation with them =\) A lot of the staff knew this annoyed customers so they would try to find something to do in the back to avoid getting flipped out on by customers.
