Snarky Brides

Mental Health Days

Hey all, I took the day off today after a couple of weeks of non stop stress.  I got to sleep in a bit, started a pot roast in the crock pot, laid around and watched tv and drank cofee, but now I'm feeling kind of restless and I feel like I should be doing something productive.

What do you do if you take a day off?  Do you make it as lazy as possible or do you use it to get shiit done that you otherwise don't have time for?

Re: Mental Health Days

  • I usually play video games all day in my robe.

  • I usually try to make is as lazy as possible, but like you I get restless and usually end up doing something, usually cleaning(and I hate that!)
  • Usually nothing fun...run errands and get caught up on laundry and such. Somehow people (family) always find out when I have a day off and need help with something. Ugh! Someday I'll take a day off and not tell anyone!
  • That was my day yesterday.  Watched the Today Show with a gigantic cup of coffee then put dinner in the crockpot.  Went to the gym after that, cleaned all the floors in our house, baked a tester pineapple casserole, then played HP legos until H got home.  It was glorious.

  • I try to do as little as possible but almost always end up busy.

I'll sit on the couch to watch tv and notice something that needs to be done, decide that since I'm bored I should make a really labor intensive dinner, or just do random chores that I'd been putting off.  Like oven cleaning.  Anyone want to come clean my oven?  I just realized I need to do that soon.
  • We don't get mental health days. If you call in sick you get in trouble so taking a day off would be too stressful to enjoy. I'd be worrying about how much trouble I was in the next day.

However, on the weekends I'm the laziest person ever. Sleep in late, wear my PJs all day, watch TV. It's great.
  • I forgot I had HP Legos!  I might have to bust that out.

I'm also considering make chocolate chip cookies so I can eat them.  But then I would have dishes to do and currently the apartment is clean.

I'm sure as hell not going to the gym though, haha.
  • I don't really take mental health days. My mental health is much better when I am a work, making progress on the mounds of work than at home letting it pile up for later. Taking vacation stresses me the eff out.

That being said, I did take last Friday off for all my final wedding appointments (hair, makeup, dress, b-pics,marriage license) so I could get it all done in one day. I worked at home Sunday to make up for it thought.

So normally if I call in to work I spend the day either totally doped up on NyQuil or puking profusely. I've got to be really sick. And I'll watch Maury Povich.

  • I used to take "mental health days" at my old job because we got too much vacation time to ever possibly use in a single year (seriously, they were so generous with the paid time off, not so much with the pay though!) I'd usually use them on Wednesdays so it didn't look like I was trying to take a three-day weekend and call off "sick" and use time from my PTO bank. I usually ended up cleaning or doing laundry though, haha.

Hmm... I don't take days off unless I can't get out of bed.  Even when I can, I still try to get to work.  I think this makes me crazy.

Anyway, I watch a lot of trash TV if I'm home during the day.  Like, Maury trashy - not Springer trashy.

On the weekends, I like to cook or bake something yummy for us to eat.  Or go shopping...

    EDIT: woo Sarah!!

A show on which there is an abundance of paternity tests.

He has this amazingly terrible talk show.  These were some common topics:

Please make over my wife - since we got married, she looks like trash
Guess if this is a man or a woman
My child is 11 and wants to have a baby
I have a secret - I'm sleeping with your mother and she's pregnant

Nowadays, it's almost always "I have tested 14 men, but today, I'm sure you're going to tell me that this guy I brought to your show IS MY BABY'S FATHER."  (aka - DNA testings shows)

Side note: he's married to Connie Chung.  I often wonder if she shuns him and his existence.
  • Oh Maury!  Good gracious that is some awesome trash tv! ha ha ha.  I used to love the ones where the moms would bring their slutty dressed 13 year olds and they would make them over.  Or the kids would bring their moms.  Those were the best, but I think all they do now is the paternity test episodes.

<div>You must not have needed a nationally televised paternity test before. It used to be a talk show. Now its just a lab with drama. </div>

  • I once worked at a company where a guy flipped out one day and ended up getting a paid Mental Health MONTH.

  • Depends on my mood but seriously, if I have the day off, I usually make it a point to do abolutely nothing constructive whatsoever.  I don't clean, I don't organize, I don't run errands, I don't even shower.  I'm a complete waste the entire day.

Sometimes that's just the way it has to be though :)

  • I generally game most of the day..or spend it here.

Me too. Except we have the flat screen TV in the bedroom so I do it in bed.  We have my computer hooked up to the TV as a monitor, too, so I can play computer games in bed as well.  :D  And snuggle with cats at the same time!!!!!

What do you do if you take a day off?  Sleep in, maybe do some chores, get some homework or studying done, research wedding stuff.

Do you make it as lazy as possible or do you use it to get shiit done that you otherwise don't have time for? Lazy as possible.

I agree that seems extreme.  I've had a lot of jobs (been working since I was 16) and I've never had one that required a doctor's note for less than three sick days.  That said, when I had a miserable cold in January and took 3 sick days, my current boss insisted I go to the doctor before returning to the office to make sure that it was JUST a cold.  It was.  Took 3 weeks before I was over it completely.  :(
