Say Yes to the Dress ruining your life?

*sigh I would love a Pnina Tornai style dress, but nothing even close to her sheer bodices exists in Canada and everything else I have tried on sucks.....anyone else been influenced by Say Yes to the Dress and is now incredibly disappointed that there isn't a Kleinfeld's in every city...haha

Re: Say Yes to the Dress ruining your life?

  • I wanted to wear Jimmy Choos because at one of my dress shopping outings the place had that as the shoe to try on with the dresses. They were perfect. I fell in love. 600 was a bit much. I found mine on ebay though only worn once for four hours by a bride a few states over. So I got the shoe I was in love with for 1/2 the price.
Don't listen to the lady above.
Search. Look online, just be careful. Consider having a dress made for you by a dress maker. If you keep looking hopefully you will find something close.
  • Yeah budget definitely isn't an issue...I don't think I had said that. All about location...can't just hop on a plane to New York, but I will continue my search. If I don't find anything remotely close I guess I will have to go to New York. haha.
  • Personally, I think you're dodging a bullet with not being able to get them in Canada.

    Haha yup. I agree.

  • I wasn't aware people actually liked Pnina Tornai dresses...I thought it was just some designer SYTTD and Kleinfeld's was pushing on America.  Okay, I saw a Pnina knockoff in the new TK big book.  I forget who made it, but since I'm home sick today and will likely read it better, I'll look for that dress.

  • Believe me, there are plenty of sheer bodice dresses in Canada. We haven't escaped that plague totally unscathed...you just need to go to the right store to get them.
  • Sheer bodices are so two years ago.
  • You know those nightmares where you're at work or school and you're naked?  I think that's how I'd feel in a wedding dress with a sheer bodice.  The seem like underwear.

If not being able to find an ugly, tacky, dress is ruining your life, I think you need to spend some time reassessing your priorities.
  • I too am ruined by the fact that I can't wear a wedding dress that's strikingly reminiscent of lingerie.

My life will never be the same.

  • Wait... you WANT a sheer bodice?

    Um.

    Oh dear.
  • If budget for a Pnina isn't a problem, then I would think you could afford a weekend in NY to get one.

  • I agree with Wiscisbliss... If buget isn't a problem, then why is going to NY for a few days a problem? Personally, I love to watch SYTTD and laugh thinking how ridiculous it is to spend that kind of money on a dress. I am all about designer labels but I also know that the dress will be worn for all of 10 hours (if that) and then what?! But to each their own I guess...

  • Drive to the US to get one! It can be done girlfriend!

  • If budget isn't an issue, how about finding a seamstress to custom make a dress for you?
  • Pnina Tornai dresses are so hookerish. I don't see how people like them. Why would you want to wear something that sheer, with your girdle showing (boning) to a formal event?

AN no, I don't think a TV show has ever ruined my life.

  • Hi butterly ;)

SYTTD isn't ruining anything for me but I did see *my* dress on the show.  It's also a Tornai, but not sheer, because I kinda know my limitations but i'm jealous of you,  ;)  awesome that you're able to pull it off.  So, consider doing a couple of different things.  Kleinfeld's posts its trunk show schedule on their website, find out when Pnina's going to be there, to coordinate with a day when you can go like another PP said and see if you can make the trip down.    And/or, again, like another pp said, even though you mentioned budget not being an issue, look on oncewed.com, recycledbride.com or preownedweddingdresses.com, I see the sheer bodiced dress you're describing quite often listed on each.  listings are from brides located everywhere.  that way if you find one near you maybe you can arrange to go to her house and try it on before deciding if a NY trip is even necessary.   good luck.

  • If I wanted to look like the Whore of Babylon I totes would have worn a Pnina Tornai instead of my Rand Evan :)

But, I do like watching the show.

  • OP, how old are you? I only ask because the girls getting those sheer-bodice dresses on SYTTD are always 18 and Daddy's paying for it... plus, they remind me of the dresses on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and all those brides are teens.

100% agree with PPs that those dresses are hookerish.

  • Just the name of this thread makes me laugh. If a television show on the The Learning Channel was truly ruining my life, I'd have bigger problems than finding a wedding dress. Just saying.

  • I personally would rather run the other way with my hair on fire than wear a dress that costs that much.
However, if you can afford it, I agree with the ones who said to go to NYC and get it.

  • My dress (Alfred Angelo) had a sheer bodice for some reason, and I HATED it, although I loved the rest of the dress.  The store was able to order some fabric from the designer and the seamstress lined the top and all was well.

However, she kept saying, at every fitting, "you don't want to be sexy bride???"  Uh, no.  Please just line the top like I paid you to.  I didn't want my skin showing through!  Not to mention I was 38 and plus-sized ;)

  • Good grief ladies, why so mean?  Not all Pnina dresses are sheer, they aren't my favorite but I'm a retro girl anyway.  And I seriuosly doubt the show literally ruined her life, she was just being cheeky.  So all of you should retract your claws and play nice or get out of the sandbox.
  • Umm, OP specifically said she wanted a sheer bodice Pnina.

And it obviously bothered her enough to start a thread about it on this board.
