Re: AYG

  • Yeah. I think the YIO flame is a huge stretch. If you don't like her, fine, but flaming her for calling her kid a kid is just silly, IMO.

They are relentless. I've done that, and they still ask, "But why wasn't it funny?" Gah, I'm not your FB laugh track. Other people thinking you're funny, is not based on whether or not, I think it's funny.

And FTR, I never flamed her for calling her kid "her kid".
  • The only issue I have with "kid" is that it reminds me of my dad's girlfriend, and when she says it, it sounds like a brush-off. Like, "oh, those are just the kids. We don't need to give them names. They don't matter." But that's a personal thing, and it entirely depends on the tone in which it's said.

With YIO, though, I figured from the beginning she just didn't want to share that kind of personal information. It's one thing to give details about yourself, another about your child. I get it.

  • I have a lot of stupid friends of FB, so I posted this:

sucrets (at the risk of sounding pretentious) wants to remind her mom friends that car seats and thick/puffy coats don't mix! Dress your child in layers and a fleece and cover them with their coat or a blanket. Thick coats compress in an accident and make it like the straps are extremely loose.

If you're wondering if you have a good fit, put your child in the seat with their coat on and tighten the straps. Then take them out and put them in without the coat. If the straps are way too loose and your child can escape, then it will... not provide any protection in an accident!

I hate to sound preachy, but I care about all your kids!

It blows my mind that people don't do basic research about safety products for their kids.

Absolutely, it's my own issue. That's why I said it was a personal thing, and that I never thought anything about YIO saying it. I just meant that hearing "the kid" reminds me of dad's GF, and depending on the tone it can sound kind of like a brush-off. But on an online forum? I totally understand not wanting to use names or anything.

And 'kiddo' seems much more endearing to me, but I'm not sure why.
