Since my laptop is still down I have to use FI's.  Well his stopped connecting to the internet a few days ago.  Finally figured it out tonight.

He says I repel technology and if I go near the TV im in big trouble, lol.

Steph- I am still too salty about mine that it is still in the box they returned it to me in.  I will just suck up the $300 bucks to get the data recovery, but I am just going to buy a new one.  The Geek Squad people say that Toshibas last a long time.

Totally getting the warranty this time.

What do you have now? I had a Toshiba in college and it was a total POS.  Granted, that was 7 years ago, but it only lasted like a year.

$300 to restore your system? That is crazy. It probably only takes them an hour. My H is a computer technician, and he has had to restore mine many times. I've got that anti-technology magnet too.

I've got an HP, and Chris says that it seems to withstand my abuse pretty well.

$300 is crazy.  I'm pretty sure my local computer repair place does that kind of stuff for dirt cheap, but it's not a chain.  Except for my battery going after almost 2 years, I've never had problems with my Sony except when upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, and I think most of those issues were related to Windows 7.

Toshiba laptops are nice.  So are Acers.  I had an HP laptop and it was terrible.  In fact, both HP customer service and Best Buy customer service laughed at me for buy an HP laptop because "HP can't make laptops for crap."  Yup, that right there was direct from the HP customer service doucherag.

I have a toshiba, but its only like 4 months old and i dont use it often so I cant really speak for its quality.

I kill Toshiba laptops. I had one in college and it would just randomly stop working completely once a month. I'd bring it home for dad to look at and it would work fine. I would get on it, still at his house, and it would shut down. We could never figure out what was going on with it. I have an HP now and so far I love it *knock on wood*

Steph- I have a sony as well.

Its not so much the quality of the product, more the customer service.  They were so rude to me.  I think all electronics will fail at some point. 

Sony said the data recovery was $300 and Geek Squad is $269.  I really want my pics and wedding list though so i will bite the bullet and do it.

I hear nothing but great things about the Apple store and their customer service.  Maybe I will check out their laptops.

I'm late, but I'm still at work (10:30pm) and I want to friggin go home.

We use Dell at work, mainly because they are in our backyard. I kill the processor in mine at least once a year. Its dying now, but I can't go without a computer during audit prep while they backup and restore me to a new one. Plus, our hardware guy just quit the other day, so there would be no one to order one for me. FML

blue- I have a macbook and i love it. It takes a few days to get used to the OS, but I've had no issues. 

Plus, my one friend is a genius, so if anything goes wrong, he can fix it for me!

Laptop brands are like phones and cars, everyone has had a bad experience with the one that someone else thinks is great. :-)  I've had Dell, Sony, Toshiba but the past two have been Dell's that I've really beat up and they keep going.
