Re: Christmas Cards

  • Love the idea of putting them in your phone.

I'm thinking of a making some kind of ribbon garland around our bay window that we can clothes pin them to.  It doesn't have a deep enough ledge for real decorations, so that would festive it up a bit.

Edie, have you seen the tutorials for making little books? There's one here and here. Something like that would be good because you can open the cards without having to pull them out of individual sleeves or anything. I have grand plans for making one someday, it just hasn't happened yet.

  • Every year I mean to do Christmas cards but never do. Maybe this year.

  • Immed. family gets individual cards.  I have several parts of boxed sets sitting around so this year I swear I am NOT going to get yet another box.  As for displaying them, we have a large bookshelf in the living room and I usually hang them around that.  xH and I had a beautiful fireplace in the old house and we hung the stockings and the cards on brickwork.
  • I've seen those too, but I like them better with yarn. The Offbeat bride one is my favorite of the two I linked. It seems like they had a different one, too, but I'm not having any luck finding it.

  • Just another cup Edie :)  I'm having one - it's one of those days
  • Pfffft, more coffee is always the answer.

  • I love cards!

I send them to all current coworkers (about 10), select former coworkers, and select friends and family. I buy an assorted box because it would be way too expensive to buy 30 cards individually.

We have a table in the corner of our dining room that I decorate seasonally. It's where I display any cards we get at any time of the year, so naturally, it's where the Christmas cards go. I store them with our Christmas stuff through the rest of the year, and then make a collage with a few I really like from the previous couple of years to hang in our 2 seasonal dining room frames (they're big enough for 6-8 cards each).

    Life is good today.
  • Just being nosy: do you send Christmas Cards? When?

Yes, I just put them in the mail today.  I was waiting for December.

To everyone in your family and friends, or only those you are closest to? How about coworkers?

All our immediate family, good friends, and my coworkers.

Select them individually, or grab an assorted box?
I get a lot of free cards in the mail from various charities that I use and each year I usually buy a box after christmas from the x-mas tree shop.

how do you display the ones you recieve?
I tape them all to our kitchen door.
  • I've always done Christmas cards, but I think this year will the first time I won't. Less and less people seem to be sending them out, so we only ended up getting a couple last year.vKinda sad really! I used to put them on the garland on my bulkhead in our living room.

  • I send holiday cards to friends on a support forum I'm part of- it's exciting to get cards from Australia and England and France! That's the only group I send and recieve with but it's a good twenty people so totally enough!

  • I do send Christmas cards to family and friends.  I just finished them up tonight so they will be in the mail Monday.

I buy the boxes.  I usually get a couple of different designs each year to mix it up.

I keep the ones we receive in a basket on a table in our entry way.  I usually toss them after Christmas.  I might keep them if they have a particularly sentimental message written in them, but mostly I throw them away after Christmas.  I don't like clutter.
  • This will be our third year sending cards. We usually use a picture of the dog and/or us and make a card on walgreens.com and then mail that out. I usually have them out by now but just ordered this year's last night, I didn't have a picture to use for the card so I made the dog pose in front of the tree for the bit so I could get one to use. I send them to most family members and some friends, usually if they send one to us. We have a hutch in our dining room with open shelving and I display all cards received there, unless they're flat cards, in which case they go on the fridge because they can't stand up on their own. I like the flat cards less for that reason.

  • We are doing crads together this year for the first time. I've done them alone almost every year but it will be nice to send them out as a couple :) All friends and family and whoemever else we deem necessary. And the boxes from the store because they are cute.

  • We send cards. This Christmas we are sending to everyone we plan to invite to the wedding. Previous years we have sent to family that we won't get to see during the holidays.

I put all my cards on display on my mantal and hand them on yarn along the top of a window in the living room.

I love getting Christmas cards in the mail for that reason I like to send them out during the holidays - I assume other people like recieving them as much as I do.
