Have we talked about this yet? I know we've discussed some obviously inappropriate Halloween costumes (Anna Rexia, anyone?), but this is a new take on the subject that has been making the rounds of Facebook all week and now seems to be hitting some national news sites:
http://dcentric.wamu.org/2011/10/we-are-a-culture-not-a-costume-questions-halloween/It's a series of posters created by students at Ohio University, essentially commenting on the inappropriateness of costumes that are based on racial or ethnic stereotypes. The campaign has garnered quite a bit of support (everyone I've seen repost it on Facebook has applauded it), as well as a fair amount of criticism from people who think that these students are overreacting to costumes that are intended to be light-hearted and fun.
What do you think?
