Morning from Antigua!

Still HMing but H is asleep still & I am wide awake so I thought I'd swing by and say hi. They don't do daylight savings here so it gets dark by 7 pm so I've become a early riser. This island is so beautiful it still looks fake. Also there are 2 lizards a foot away from me who are doing it and I just had a humingbird with a mohawk fly right by me (balcony). I'll PIP some when we are back in the states.

Sounds like if we were home we wouldn't have any power, maybe til Tuesday. I hope everyone is doing okay up there and is staying safe. Lookong forward to catching up on everything.

Ciao (tons of Italians here, it's weird)!

  • Morning! H and I are having brunch before we hit the road again. Charleston is beautiful, I could definitely see us living here. It's hot as all getout though, but that's true of pretty much the entire eastern seaboard. And I've got about 25 mosquito bites that are driving me insane. It looks like I have serious bacne so I keep reassuring people that they're just bites.

  • Good morning, ladies.

Getting a late start this morning, since I didn't get home until after 11pm.  God, I hate Kansas.  A big storm came through, with wind, hail, lightning, and rain; I was fighting to keep the car in one lane.  The temperature dropped from 96 to 64 within 10 minutes and I was scared to death about tornadoes.  I couldn't remember what to do if I saw a funnel cloud - not much I could have done out on the highway with nothing in sight.

But, Kansas does have a bright spot - I had lunch with jcb and Mr. jcb yesterday.  We had a great time.  And some of you should have felt your ears burning!

Morning! Today is day 1 of my staycation, so we're doing nothing today except a bit of light cleaning and cooking, since we have a couple of friends coming for dinner. Next week is major cleaning week for me, though. Our house is a wreck, and my MIL and SIL are coming in next weekend, so I'd like for the house to be at least presentable.

Have fun on your HM! It sounds beautiful! Well, besides the lizards doing it.

I'm still laughing at the lizards doing it. Well, that sets the honeymoon theme, I guess.

I am so stressed out because I feel like I have so much shiiit to get done before we leave on Tuesday.  I need a little cleaning elf and a curriculum-writing elf, so that I can relax.

ETA: Les, I've been thinking of you guys. How is everything by you? Your friends?

Les, I'm glad you got through KS safely! I've made that trip quite a few times now. 9 hours feels like 9 years through KS.

Oh, and if you see a funnel cloud, the sky will be this strange green color. Most of the rest stations in Ks are also tornado shelters (for obvious reasons). If you can't make it there, find a ditch and lay down face down with your hands covering your head. NEVER go under an overpass, that actually creates more suction! I hope this never happens to anyone, but I had to share my KS wisdom since I grew up there.

  • Thanks, SEWF!  I remembered something about a ditch, but I would have chosen the underpass first.  Fortunately we got to a truck stop and stayed there until the worst of it blew over.

Nates - the fire is now 45% contained, with very little new growth.  Some evacuees are being allowed to return to their homes.  And, our friends who were in the worst danger of losing their homes have been spared.  They can't go home yet, but it looks like the firefighters did an amazing job of keeping some neighborhoods safe.  Thanks for asking!

  • Morning.

My niece is joining us for a trip up north for her first cattle drive.  Poor little thing has some romantic and action packed image of what it's going to be like but I give her an hour in the saddle before she starts bitching.  Of course being the cool auntie, I'll overlook any swears I hear.  If you can't cuss when a smelly heifer is trying to run ya down.. when the hell can you?

We're almost there now and I think it's going to be a pretty good day.  Now if i can only stop wanting a smoke.  Doing a marlboro man impression on the range without isn't something I'm looking forward to though.  Stupid habits.
  • Oh, wow, thank God, Les. I can't imagine what everyone must be going through out there. Nature sure was a fuucking hosebeast these past few weeks for a lot of people.

You can do it, Anna. Hope the niece has fun :)

Yeah, I've been thinking about all of you CO ladies, too. My in-laws aren't in immediate danger, but they can see and smell the smoke from the Colorado Springs fire. And H's aunt is on the southeast side of Boulder, and I guess the northwest side got evacuated. It's all very scary, and you all (and the firefighters) will be in my thoughts.
