Sewn in Cups, Strapless Bra or Nothing?

Are you having cups sewn into your dress, wearing a strapless bra or are you not wearing any support?

My dress has a built in bra that felt comfortable when I tried it on, but the bridal salon said I might consider getting cups sewn in too. I'm wondering if the built in bra isn't enough support for everyone if she suggested cups. FYI, I am a 34C.   I'm thinking sewn in cups would be less of a hassle than a strapless bra, but I'm not sure how expensive it will be. My first fitting isn't for a month so I have time to think about it.

  • I'm having sewn-in cups and they were $12 to buy. I don't know how much she is charging to actually sew them in, but I think it's just part of my alterations fee (which my mom is paying so I don't know what it is). FWIW, I'm 32C-D, depending on the time of month, and I thought cups would be helpful.

  • My dress came with a built in bra that you have to fasten and everything, but just as precaution so i don't keep picking up my dress my seamstress is adding some kind of extra support inside the built in.

  • I'm just doing sewn in cups. But I'm a 32B so there's not much there haha

  • I'm a 34C and I'm wearing a strapless bra. I wasn't comfortable wearing nothing and I didn't like the sewn in cups either.

  • I am a 34 D and I think I am going to wear a strapless bra.  I don't think getting cups sewn in will keep my ladies lifted the whole night.  I guess I will see that the seamstress suggests when I go for my first fitting on tuesday :)

What didn't you like about the sewn in cups? Did they not feel supportive or give you any lift?
  • I'm free-ballin' it, but I've had fittings already and the dress is so tight on the top, I'm not scared of the dress slipping or me falling out.

I'd bring a strapless bra to your fitting and just discuss with the seamstress about which will be the best for you.

  • Nothing for me. I'm 36C and the dress has a corset so it'll be all tied up in the back and it fit pretty well. I'm not worried about them popping out (fingers crossed!)

  • mine has a built-in bra. I am a 36B and there isn't much that would pop out anyway. Mine is a corset back, and I kept tugging at it when I had it on during my first fitting (no seamstress just trying it on to see what was happening/how it fit generally). I am going to talk to the seamstress at my first fitting in a few weeks about making sure it fits the girls properly.

Sewn in cups - I"m a 34B/C. I didn't want to worry about a strapless bra showing at anytime.

  • I have the strapless bra/corset thing from David's Bridal...I was actually surprised that it worked, to be honest. But with the style of my dress, everything was concealed and supported perfectly - and I'm a well endowed 36 almost DD.
  • Thanks Ladies. I'm going to bring a strapless bra to the fitting and see how the dress fits with and without it, and also try to get an idea from the seamstress whether sewn in cups would be better, all based on the style of the dress.
  • I'm not wearing anything. I'm actually really excited about this because I used to be really big and could never get away with this. But since my surgery I'm a 36C and in my dress, which has a corset back, I don't need a bra. As long as its tied tight everything will stay up.

  • I'm doing sewn in cups because I'm pretty small and I need them to fill in my dress haha. They are costing me $25 to buy and have sewn in.

  • I'm a 40C and I had cups built in because I can't wear a strapless with the back of my dress...and I wouldn't want to wear a strapless anyways...one less piece of clothing to wear under that thing! lol
