H's wearing rings

I have a friend who recently got married (July) and she is SO pissed that her H doesn't want to wear his ring any more. I personally take my ring off immediately when I get home. Water gets caught under it and it makes my finger really irritated, so this helps.

I'm just curious... do your H's wear their rings, why or why not? I'll be leaving it up to FI, it makes no difference. None of the men in my family wear rings, but mostly due to jobs. Fi won't have that problem, but I still don't are either way.

Re: H's wearing rings

  • My H doesn't wear his daily. He says is fingers sweat too much.

He wears it at family gathering, on weekends, and when we go out.
  • My H wore his ring only when we went out to dinner.  He never wore it to work (he does HVAC and with the electricity involved it could be dangerous) and he never wore it around the house.  Most times if we were going out I would ask him "So, are you going to be married tonight?" to see if he was planning on wearing his ring.  Honestly I didn't care either way.  Ring or no ring it doesn't mean that you are more or less married if you have it or don't have it on.

Right now, H doesn't wear his ring because he lost it down the ocean.  I knew it was a matter of time before he lost it and am pretty shocked it lasted as long as it did.

  • Both my husband and I wear our rings all day, every single day.  I rarely take mine off and I've never seen him take his off.
  • My H wears his ring all the time, unless he's showering or working out.

Now my ex never wore his because of work. But he was also a whoredog, so that explained some of it. He is now on his 4th wife and he wears a ring doing the same job.

  • H wears his almost all the time, he only really takes it off to do dishes and sleep.

I'm the one that is lax about wearing it. I have a weird habit of sitting on my left hand, and it digs in after a while.

  • H wears his on the weekends and when we're out and about. He's a CNC machine operator and gets crap all over his hands and is banging up against other metal things all day long. Since his ring has a braided gold inlay it would get scratched and dinged pretty easily so he doesn't wear it at work. He says very few of his male co-workers wear rings.

I wear mine all day at work and on the weekends when we're out but I take them off sometime between when I get home and when I start cooking dinner. I also don't sleep or shower with them on so usually on the weekends I don't put it on until I shower and go out.

  • FI and I have discussed if he will be wearing his or not and as of now he plans to wear it at all times. I never take my engagement ring off unless I am cleaning it. I plan on doing the same with the wedding ring.

Mine doesn't wear his everyday because it's a little loose on him and he's afraid he'll lose it. My family gives him a hard time when they don't see him wearing it though. lol. I really don't care.

I used to wear my old E-Ring everyday, but since i got that one in 2004 when he proposed,  he gave me a new set this year when we finally got married. This new one, i don't think i can wear all the time, if my fingers sweat or i get them wet, I have to air dry them or else i get a rash.
  • My husband wears his sometimes and sometimes not. I do not know the decision making factors. I could care less. Only important thing is that he puts it in a relatively safe place when he takes it off so he doesn't lose it.
  • HSpoon wears his most of the time, but his hands sometimes swell in the afternoon, so he'll have to take it off then.  He's still getting used to it, though.  I am too, honestly.  ^_^;

<div>My mom lost one wedding ring in the river, lost a diamond in the replacement ring, and then shut the car door on her hand (she was okay, just sore fingers for a few days) and banged up her ring bad enough that the replacement diamond fell out and the gold got scuffed.  She still wears her ring every day, and my dad just makes jokes about how now he doesn't have to come up with a birthday/christmas/whatever holiday is closest gift.  My dad has never worn a ring because of his job.  I don't even think he has one, so growing up I just thought men didn't wear wedding rings.  But they're having their 32nd anniversary this year, so it just goes to show the rings have nothing to do with the marriage.</div><div>
</div><div>I never wear rings so I'm a little nervous my engagement ring will feel weird, and FI isn't sure if he's going to wear one or not.</div>
  • My FI won't wear his ring daily once we're married. He can't because of his job (well, he could, but he really shouldn't and none of his coworkers do). He'll probably just wear it when we go out, which is fine by me. I'll probably stop wearing my e-ring everyday once we're married and wear it only on special occasions, although I will still wear my wedding band everyday.

    Life is good today.
  • H wears his every day, like I do. He will often take it off when he gets home and we both don't wear them when we shower or sleep but other than that it's about the same for each of us. He actually forgot his for the first time today and he drew one on when he was at work with a Sharpie- maybe he's like me in that I feel kind of naked without it!

H wears his every day or at least I think he does.  I've never seen him take it off.  My xH never wore one.  We exchanged rings, but I don't think he wore his after a year or so.  My dad never wore one either - he had to hock it for $$$$ when he and my mom came to this country.  My mom ended up buying him another one years later, but I don't recall him ever wearing it.
  • H and I both wear our rings all the time. The only time they come off is when we are at the lake, since we don't want to lose them in the water when we ski. H wore a different ring before we got married, though, so he's used to having one on all the time.
  • We have already talked about his ring when i was looking at them. Hes a cook so no stone or grooves allowed. Pluse hes hard on things am getting a stainless steal band somewhat cheapish i can get a two which i plan on doing and if lose or bangs it up its ok. I only wear mine at home. I work as a zoo keeper and i use a hose all day rakeing shoveling poop fixing things and monkeys just like shiny things. So no way is my ring getting near the animals. I come home shower and put it back on. I do take it off to do dishes and cook but i freak out if i dont have it on. If i go to bed and i feel its still off from cleaning the kitchen i will get up go get it and not sleep till i do.
  • H and I wear our rings all the time. We don't even take them off for dishes/showering/sleeping - is that something you are supposed to do? I take mine off once a week or so to clean them, and if I am swimming in the ocean, but thats about it.
  • My Ex wore his first one briefly, a few months, then stopped wearing it, then he lost it.  I bought him a second one, which he never even tried on.  It always sort of bothered me that he didn't wear it.

FI plans to wear his ring every day.  I wear mine unless I am showering, swimming, doing heavy cleaning like scooping cat poos/painting/gardening, or lifting weights.

Rings are a very personal thing, I honestly know some people who just don't like how they feel, but to me, it will be an honor to have FI wear the ring I bought him every day, and I will be so proud to wear mine.

  • My DH was not planning to wear a ring.  He didn't really like any and thought they were uncomfortable.  I was fine with this.  We had a ceremony ring.  While on our HM, he bought a new one and wears it all the time (shower, bed, etc).

I take mine off when I am home.  I always wear it when I leave the house but never wear it at home.
