Ugh I have no sound on my work computer and no head phones. I really want to hear these songs! FI and I are clueless, so far we are thinking "Unforgettable" from Nat King Cole or "always and forever" from Luther Vandross. If I can squeeze in a Private Last Dance then I would want "marry me" from Train For my sisters wedding my dad switched the some and played Sleeping Beauty's "once upon a dream" everyone was crying. So Im not sure what to do with my dad (considering he doesn't approve of the wedding). hmm... Posted by marksle84
Mine didn't either so I didn't dance with him. Nor did he walk me down the aisle. We danced together briefly with our guests at one point and Ben danced with his mom but we didn't do spotlight dances.

Yeah Steph I know we've had the "dad chat" before. But I know I will regret it if I don't, and he did promise to walk me down the aisle. I just need to find something not too sappy. Maybe "mygirl" from the movie. I'm just not sure.

How about "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder? I always love that one.

I've just spent the last way too long listening to everyone's songs! Way too much fun. I love all the different F/D songs. I don't have them firgured, yet, but these are my ideas:

First dance:
We both kind of wanted to do a slow song leading into an upbeat swing song (our first date was swing dancing, and we both love it), and take lessons/classes and everything. I was thinking Keith Urban's "Your Everything"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlkQwDHCnog

mashed into Michael Buble's Everything. We'll see if that works out.

For the F/D dance, I really like Chuck Wick's "Stealing Cinderella." I know it's from the point of view of the FI, but there are some awesome parallels. My FI actually did have a sit-down with my dad before he proposed, and I really did play Cinderella as a kid. One of my mother's favorite stories is of finding me out back in my ball gown. She asked me where I thought I was going and I replied, "To the ball." So...haha, it's a favorite.

I missed this thread earlier today but like you, I've spent the last hour or so listening to everything. Keith Urban has some great songs.

I am unbelievably late to the party but all of our music selections are here (<- link).

For First dance: The Way I Am- Ingrid Michaelson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeohdQCtWZ4&feature=player_embedded
It was actaually really difficult to choose our first dance song. I mean we could of had our entire reception just doing first dance songs that we loved. It was mainly chosen because of the length and the line about Rogaine.

We did a combo F/D and M/S dance to
Then They Do- Trace Adkins. We wanted something not mushy and something not "Oh, parent you are so great, blah blah" so this is what we went with because neither one would give input, well my dad didn't care and we didn't ask MIL. I was too afraid that it would be a song similar to Julie's MIL (Um, I kid. I've just had 2 cups of super strong coffee with NO ONE to talk to and I don't normally have caffeine); it's broad and talks about growing up. My dad added in Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn at the last second, without telling me. I was confused, still am about this choice but I've given up trying to figure it out. All he will say is that it was my favorite song growing up. ??? All the research done on the lyrics and stuff make it seem like I drove him to drink so thanks dad.

Our private last dance was
We are Man and Wife- Michelle Featherstone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYKYGFcTgmg&feature=player_embedded

I wish I would have made more of an effort to make First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes because DH liked it, I thought it was dumb but I should have listened to the whole song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwFS69nA-1w or told the DJ this was a MUST MUST play song because we didn't get to dance to it. It's okay, I get to listen to it on Pandora.

Weddingwire has great lists of song choices if you are stuck.

Shortgirl,
My mom loved that song but I couldn't listen to it after our wedding. In fact, I really find that I can't listen to Celine Dion at all any more.

So speaking of icky parent dances, here is what one MIL wanted for her M/S dance. Some backgroud: The bride and groom moved from the east coast to the west coast to attend college and the MIL hates the DIL. Below is what the MIL told the son to tell the DJ. I pulled it off another site and it takes the cake for me:

For the Mother Son Dance: As we walk out to the dance floor- a short faded clip of Mama Told Me Not To Come by Three Dog Night or You Better Shop Around. Once we're on the floor and ready to dance the first 30 sec of Blue Eyes by Elton John, right up to the first line. "Blue Eyes, Baby's Got Blue Eyes ... Like a Blue Blue Sea On A Blue, Blue Day" ... then there is a good few seconds of music that you can fate out of that and into Blessed by Elton John. Finally once the dance is over my Mom wanted to play a short short short clip of a Kenny Chesney song: There Goes My Life, where he sings, "...he checked the oil, slammed the hood, said you're good ... and headed off to the west coast ... he cried, there goes my life" Please cut it off completely after "there goes my life" because he immediately sings something else that's irrelevant to the wedding.

In the end, the MIL only got Blue Eyes and the Blessed Elton John song.

Ahhh I missed so much today while I was out. Like Kendall said, we started the sappy songs...here are the songs we finally picked out.

Our 1st Dance - Marry Me by Train
Our Private Last Dance - Man and Wife by Michelle Featherstone

Looks like Shortgirl and I have the same good taste!

Shortgirl,
There are no words. Well, there are but I think that they're inappropriate for this forum.
