Water overload

I have 7 pounds to lose in 23 days! I am the laziest when it comes to working out and a friend of mine told me that if I overload on water and not eat after 7pm, I should be able to drop this weight.

Has anyone ever done the water drinking thing to lose weight? I am going to get some fozen fruit to add some type of flavor. I am down to the wire. I hope this works! I'm going to try to get in a bottle an hour while I am at work.
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image

Re: Water overload

  • You'll do better with just a diet of chicken, fish and vegetables, low sodium, and a normal amount of water.

  • You should still eat.. I hope you weren't implying not eating. LOL

I'm not really sure what you are trying to do by water overload.. Just drink your suggested amount (64 oz?)
Exercising and eating right are the only good ways to drop weight.. Try Jillian Michael's 30 day shred- it will kick your booty!
  • In my experience drinking water will help you lose weight if you currently drink a lot of calories in a day.  Say for example if you drink 6 fully loaded sodas in a day and switch over to just water.  You'll drop the weight because you've cut so many calories.  No joke, I stopped drinking Mt. Dew and switched to water, I lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks.

Yeah ditto PPs - maybe people are able to drop weight by doing quick fixes, like ingesting pretty much only water - but it's just a quick fix and isn't good for you.  I don't want you to crash, girl!

Stick to veggies and fruits, grilled chicken or fish - watch your portions, and of course, stay hydrated!

ETA - I know how hard it can be to drag your butt to the gym, but sit down and plan ahead of time what time of day works best for you to go  - and have someone keep you accountable to it.  Don't skip!  Just go and burn some calories!

  • Oh also, one of my fitness books says that the number of ounces of water you should drink everyday is the equivalent to half your body weight.  If your trying to lose weight or not, that's the recommended amount.

  • ALso, if you overload on water, you risk hyponatremia (sp?), which is an imbalance in electrolytes. It can cause fatigue, heart palpitations, and all other kinds of unpleasantness. 64oz is ok, but unless you are also sweating a lot out with exercise, too much can actually be harmful.

  • I wouldn't overload on water either, losing 7 lbs in 23 days is very doable! Just eat a little healthier and exercise more, I never was a fan of restricting myself sooooo probably why I haven't lost the 50 or so lbs I wanted to loose. Oh well feel free to ignore my advice since I can't even take my own lol

Eat right and exercise.  If you crash diet you'll either lose the weight and gain it back plus some when you stop, or you'll just screw with your metabolism and not lose anything.  Two pounds a week is considered healthy so I think you could get to 7 pounds, or darn close, in three weeks.

I've been doing Zumba and I love every second of it.  You don't really realize you're exercising until the next morning when you're sore.
  • Okay I am not saying that I won't be eating. Did I mention I am greedy as helll?? LOL! She was just saying that drinking a ton of water would help the weight fall off.

I was gonna suggest this too! Its sooo much fun, and just feels like dancing, not a workout.. It burns calories fast though.
  • Staying hydrated is very important for health and weight loss - but I wouldn't drink more water than you're supposed to :)

HA! I was hoping not. I just read water overload and I was like ummm.... reading comp fail here!

Anyways, yes drinking water and coffee only has helped me a LOT. Even diet coke was sabatoging me. I def. don't look or feel as bloated anymore.
  • My coworker has been trying to get me to go to a Zumba class with her but when I get off of work I am Broke Down! I guess if I would have stuck with taking my vitamins, I would not feel this way huh?

I really don't want to spend the money on some spanks but that looks like it may be my only option.

This and if your electrolytes get too off balance you can have a heart attack.

I agree with Dmill in that it will probably only make a big difference if you currently drink a lot of pop/sugar filled juice, etc. I've heard that drinking a glass of cold water before each meal will help with losing weight. Presumably because your stomach is already full of water, so you get full sooner.

Sarah's also right in that in can cause hyponatremia, if you drink a lot really fast. I'd definitely just stick with the 8 glasses a day dealyo.
  • You can't drink a bunch of water and expect to lose weight. Water helps with sodium retention and it is great for you. but it isn't a WL method. Also how much water are we talking here? ODing on water can kill you.

  • Cut back on food, lower the salt, drink lots of water and do a little walking...maybe 20 minutes to 1/2 hour a day.

I know you're not looking for this kind of weight loss, but I lost 85 pounds by doing weight watchers and walking maybe 1 mile a day. Just a little movement can make a big difference.

I agree with this. You don't have to be Jillian Micheals to lose weight.

  • ...I'm glad ricks is here, because she knows what she's talking about.

My weight usually fluctuates up or down 5-6 lbs - I think I'm about 133 right now.  I have no idea how to actually lose weight, though.  I do what feels right - whether it be cooking an actually healthy meal, or just chowing on Girl Scout cookies for dinner.  Part of the reason I'm terrified of pregnancy is because I'm horrified I won't have a clue how to lose the weight... I'm vain.

    Agreed.

Also, you should probably not listen to me because I just ate the worst breakfast ever.  :D
  • It's hard to lose weight when you are already small, believe me! Once your body hits the weight it wants to be at, you have to work a little harder. I don't have time for that though!

That's probably my problem, lol.  Sometimes I'd like to be smaller - but I don't really need to be, and it doesn't matter if I skip the gym for two weeks or run 4 miles a day every day - not much happens.

Mmm! Sometimes you have to splurge. I generally go all out like that too when I splurge. I got a monster lemon poppyseed muffin and a large mocha latte. There is an inch thick sludge of chocolate in the bottom of the latte.
  • I am the same way ABB. I have been trying to lose 7 pounds for about 6 months now. No worky!

Sounds great. I think it's funny b/c we were talking about CVD in Med. nutrition yesterday and then I went out and bought a diet high in EVERYTHING unhealthy. Hey, nutrition people like bad foods too!

  • Did you see the backlash about Jillian's new video? Apparently it uses kettlebells, but her technique is horrible because she is not trained in kettlebells. Its really easy to hurt yourself with those things if you aren't properly instructed, so I fear she will have more lawsuits on her hands.

30DS is awesome in a pinch, though, when I don't have time or motivation for anything else.

  • I have heard a little bit about the backlash with her and the kettlebells.  What the crap, though, she's a machine, how hard would it be for her to figure out kettlebells before doing a video?
