Re: Who has had a brazilian wax?

  • Hi! It's not bad, honestly. I think an eyebrow wax hurts worse.

  • That's good to know!
    image
  • TY Duds! I will look into this too!
    image
  • I've done it twice before....and they do hurt. Some spots "down there" hurt more than other spots, but if you can make it through the pain, its totally worth it in the end. I've also heard that the more you do it, the less painful it is.

Last time I had one done (right before the wedding) I was ready to tell the woman to stop halfway through. I was in pain, and didn't think I could handle any more!

I had read online before I went the first time to take some advil ahead of time, I did this both times and it helped a little.

  • CPM, wow okay that's good to know. How long did the wax last? Are they worth the pain?
    image
  • It lasted about 2 1/2 weeks.

Honestly, I think the only time I'll ever get them again is for when H and I are going on vacation or some other special occasion. They're expensive, and painful...and for most things, I have a really high threshold for pain, but this is intense!

If you're considering doing it, I would suggest looking for a place that uses the hard wax, not the wax/strip method, from what my SIL told me, the strip/wax method is way worse. Also take some advil or have a glass of wine before you go!

Maybe start off with just the bikini wax (not a full Brazilian) to see how bad/not bad the pain is for you.

  • Just had one last night!  I get them all the time now, it's just what I do...in the summer I will have to shave a bit though because I can't make it between waxes and wear swimsuits...but all winter long I get as much as I can waxed (my arms, underarms, full leg, brazilian)...and I get it done for about $45 by a woman who works out of her house!
  • TY girls!

Number, that's cheap! The place I found charges 75+.
    image
  • It is cheap because she does it out of her house...when I would go to a salon to get that done it would have been $100+...I couldn't afford that but I can afford to go see her.  Yesterday I got just a brazillian, my arms and my eyebrows and it only cost me $30.
  • I need to find someone who does house waxing.
    image
  • There are definitely a few places where it hurts more than others, but I am a huge wuss about painful stuff and I didnt think it was bad at all.  And honestly, the places I thought would be really painful barely hurt. I think waxing the upper lip area (which I did once when my mom told me I looked like I had a mustache) hurts more.

  • Numbers- do you pay $45 for ALL of that?!?!?!

Around here a brazilian is about $70 alone. But Ricks- do it. It is SO worth it. You just feel so sexy and clean after and- no more in grown hairs or razor bumps. The more  you do the wax, the thinner the hair grows back and the less of it comes back. When you really keep up with it, it becomes easier and easier.

However- try and find a place that uses stripless wax. It's the strips that really hurt. We have places around here with sensitive stripless wax- its amazing!

  • I use an anti-bump cream called bikini zone.  It works pretty well and is pretty cheap at target.

I went to UWC for the first time a few weeks ago for my brows, and I LOVE it. Whatever wax they use hurts so much less than any other place I've gone. And they have deals where you can pay up front for a year of unlimited waxing. Also, idk if this is true of all locations or just the one I went to, but they were offering free waxing for 1st time customers. You can pick either bikini, brows or underarms. Just a PSA!

  • I have really low pain tolerance and I don't find them to be that bad. There's a few places that hurt worse than others, but I think the pain goes away pretty fast. Like PPs said find a place that uses hard wax. I also recommend starting with a basic bikini wax or an extended bikini just to get a feel for how it feels! I've never taken anything before hand either. They do make numbing creams though, don't know if they work. I have an appt on Monday to try sugaring, which supposedly is way better and hurts less, we shall see.

  • Welp, I am going to have to move to Numbers's town. I was paying over $100 just for Brazilian and legs, every 5 weeks. I really loved it (really really loved it) and I didn't think the pain was bad at all) but I just couldn't justify the cost.

I did find that the pain was worse on days when I hadn't exercised first, so I made sure to do a pretty hard workout beforehand.

<div>I got 'sugered' for the first time yesterday. I think it was about the same pain-wise, however, I did notice my skin was WAY smoother and a lot less irritated afterwards. It's supposed to take (a little) longer to grow back too.</div><div>
</div><div>I find using Neosporin on razer burn makes it go away super fast. And I started using conditioner as a shaving lotion a few years ago. Works just as good, if not better, than overpriced shaving lotion/gel/etc</div>
  • I am going to piggy-back on this question....I have had one bikini wax I can't remember it all that well. But I have heard people turn red/get a rash/etc after a wax

How long before the wedding should the waxing get done? Also how long should the hair be?

  • From experience, if you wax a few days before or after your period, expect the pain to be more intense!!  ;P  Just an fyi!

<div>I got a Brazilian done a couple days before the wedding.</div><div>
</div><div>I honestly don't think it's too bad, but the yucky part is how much I bruise! I bruise every time. I take a couple tylenol, use some no scream cream and that's it. They charge $75 for the first time and $60 after that, if you maintain it. I seriously prefer it to shaving, it's just too expensive for me to keep it up constantly.</div>

  • Definitely try sugaring.  It lasts much longer, doesn't hurt as bad.
  • Hard wax is ideal. It doesn't adhere to your skin nearly as much as strip wax.

Not sure how to say this without it being vulgar, but the area right above your cl*t is what hurts the most. That said, it's probably the easiest area to forgoe.

  • I get waxed every 4 weeks, with the strips, and it's not awful and totally worth it! You gotta find someone who knows what they're doing. My first couple of times were with inexperienced people and it felt like it took hours. The woman I go to now is done in under 10 minutes! I take an ibuprofen before I go - it doesn't help with the actual waxing, but it definitely helps any swelling/soreness afterwards. She also puts on rash cream before you jump off the table, definitely helps with after effects too.

It also only costs me $25 at a hair/nail/spa salon type place. Totally better than shaving, I'll never shave again!
