Snarky Brides

:: np ::

Hi! I love you, too! I was reading the shout outs thread, but I was way late to it, so I thought I'd say hello here.

How's school and things?

Sorry, I haven't been around much lately. It's been a rough week. Undecided

  • I love being able to drive around with the windows down, blasting music!

What grade do you teach? I'm glad the kids are awesome.

Also, I can't remember what you're going to grad school for? teaching? I feel like a bad friend. lol.

Emerson is good. I made him a pool out of an ice chest and he loved it.

Unfortunately, my rough week isn't normal day to day stuff. I'll PM you about it. I don't really feel like having it all out there, ya know?

  • Aw, Emerson :).

I totally understand--PM away, if you want to talk about it.

Don't feel like a bad friend--I only complain about my classes and never describe them (except the negative stuff :P).  I'm getting my Master's in Language Ed.  I want to get my ESL certification because it's a rough time to be teaching (huge layoffs) and I want a back up plan.  Plus, about 20% of our school is Korean American and many of them are in ESL or recently tested out.  I need to learn more about how to reach them.

I teach mostly juniors and I have a senior Film class.  This year, I have some sophomores, too.  The juniors told them I'm strict and now they're scared of me :).
  • YGPM back.

Film is pretty awesome.  I teach it the same as my lit. classes, so we "read" the films and discuss interpretations, symbolism, etc.  But it's a lot more fun :).

I only threatened the lasers.  Why pull out the big guns this early in the year?  No, but during my Honors class, II was hooking up the projector and the light was shining right in my eyes. I was like, "I feel like I've got laser eyes right now.  That's the super power I really want."  The kids were dying laughing.
  • YGPM back.

I want to sit in on your film class. It sounds fun.

haha. I love that you brought up laser eyes in class. You're right, though. You should probably save the lasers for the really bad kids. I think for your day to day punishments, you should consider this option:

  • YES!  I need to have stocks in my classroom like NOW.  I'm going to put in a maintenance request.

What do you suppose they would say if I actually did that?

I agree about the laser eyes--way too hardcore.  Besides, I should probably let them live in fear of the possibility of laser eyes before actually unleashing them.
  • I'm sure it's frowned upon. Undecided

As for laser eyes, the anticipation always makes the punishment worse!

  • They really get in the way of a good time.

oh and PM again. It's kind of funny that we're having two different conversations. I guess that's my fault. lol.

  • I like the air of mystery about us.
  • That's a good point. I'm not normally that exciting.

  • Me either.

Okay, I'm off for dinner and grad work.  Yay, exciting life :). It was fun talking, though!
