Snarky Brides

Well this blows

So my BM dresses arrived yesterday.  2 of my girls come over to try them on, and they are SKINTIGHT.  As in, can't breathe, now-have-back-fat, 'it's a miracle this zippered,' tight.  We ordered from Pearl's Place and the girls picked their sizes according to the Bill Levkoff size chart, but there's no time to exchange and besides, PP got the order exactly right.

Sigh.

I now feel like I'm going to have 6 stressed out BMs on crash diets for the next 6 weeks.

Any advice or words of wisdom?

  • corset backs? can they be let out at all?  How many BMs do you have? Buy dresses at a local store for not much?

Can you get any extra fabric from the dress maker to let the dresses out?

God, that sucks.  Maybe consider trying to find something else.  You could go someplace like JCpennys which always has loads of cocktail-e\sque dresses and see if you can't pull something off.  You'd have to eat the costs yourself but it may be  worth it.   You don't want them being miserable your entire wedding day.   Plus, skin tight just looks bad.

Depending on the material, it may stretch out?  Couod it be washed and pulled out a little (ypu know how some cottons and other materials can be stretched after washing)?  Can some variety of panel or corset be added?

  • I would take them to a seamstress asap and see what can be done about letting them out someway.

Do you have a pic of them?

  • I will totally look into everything posted here.

I DO think the dress could stretch if the girls felt like wearing it around the house a bit before the wedding.  When we picked it out, the sample size 12 fit 3 of them quite comfortably, but now it's tight.  It's that poly-satin 'bridesmaid dress' fabric.

I believe they'll all have plenty of extra length to be chopped off, so hopefully they could use that fabric if necessary to let the dress out a bit?

    This is the gown:

  • I sew some.  From what I can see in the picture if there is going to be extra fabric they should be able to insert a panel.  Are they just tight up to where the sash is?? Or does the tightness continue kinda over their butts??

    Sorry this happened.
  • If they are getting them taken up, I would use that extra fabric for a panel to put behind a corest, as PP suggested.

  • Aprov, that's right, they're only tight above the sash.. plenty of booty room haha.

This conversation is encouraging lol.  After talking to you girls I'm feeling more optimistic about the situation.

  • Jenny, I wore a Bill Levkoff for my best friends wedding, it looked kind of like that.  I had the same problem.  I have a huge rib cage and big ta-tas so it zipped but I could barely breathe.  Definitely have them wear them around a bit.

  • Blue, I'll do that.

    Thanks everyone!!

As PP said you have plenty of time to get them altered.  I find putting a panel in over the tush gets complicated.  If its just the ribcage and boobs then a panel is a quick and easy fix that won't be noticeable.  It'll be fine.
  • And it's seriously a bridal party of boobs.  I think 4 out of my 6 girls are at least D cups.. the GMs will think they've struck gold.

LOL.  I think that should be your BM's slogan.....bridal party of boobs.
  • Hahaha!  Love it.
  • Water pills... ha. Kidding!

I say as long as they can get them on, don't stress. Once they get them on and starting moving around for pictures and dancing at the reception the fabric will probably loosen. A similar situation happened with my MOH/sister and she ended up being fine!
  • All good suggestions, and I have no more to offer.  Just wanted to say that those are beautiful dresses, Jenny.
  • Those are my bridesmaid dresses, also! I think I would say Spanx. And get them taken out as much as you can.....even if it is next to nothing. On the bright side....at least they zipped!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Thanks Jackie!

    MyWedding - I know, right?!

I definitely feel better about the situation this morning.  Thanks all for the replies and suggestions!

Yeah, same here. Good luck, Jenny and bridal party of boobs!
  • Wearing my dress helped with the tightness a lot. Even just a little stretching of the fabric helps a lot and can make a dress go from tight to snug. Don't panic yet, talk to a seamstress and know there is still time :)
  • I wore a bill levkoff dress in march and my BM's are wearing one to. Mine had to be let out at the bust because i have big boobies. It was fairly easy for the seamstress and it didn't look bad at all either.

My grils ordered the sample size also I hope they fit :(
