Speaking of crock pots

Do any of you have good chicken and wild rice soup recipes for the crock pot?

Re: Speaking of crock pots

  • I love the crock pot, and we're getting into the season where we use it 2-3 times a week.

We do lots of chicken in the crock pot.  Sometimes with a jar of salsa and a can of black beans, or with cream of chicken/mushroom/celery and/or cheddar cheese soup.  I serve it with rice cooked separately.  Or pasta.  mmmmmmm.

  • Nope, but I love my crock pot.

  • My mom used to do the following and actually make a lot more of the ingredients, but I throw together ready-made stuff and let it simmer.

Chicken pieces (shredded, cubes, whatever you like)
Half to three-fourths a package of Velveeta (regular size, I think it's 2 lbs?)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
    1 package Uncle Ben's already-cooked wild rice
    2 cans of diced potatoes

And then I add milk to make it the consistency I want, sometimes it's really thick and sometimes it's thinner.  This soup is awesome in the winter!
  • ...I'm now starving and it's two hours til lunch.  FML, NS.

  • Ahhh I love crock pot season!  I don't have a recipe for that though sorry =(

I like white chicken chili in the crock pot.  Or just throwing random things in and letting it cook all day - salsa, chicken, corn, black beans, chili's, etc. So good!

And now I'm starving...  44 minutes until lunch!

Pulled pork reminded me...  BBQ anything in the crock pot is amazing IMO. Everything just falls apart and is glorious

  • I need to use our crock pot. I think I've used it once. I'm paranoid about leaving it on all day long with no one home. And I'm afraid I'll mess it up somehow. H has been saying for a couple weeks now that he wants to do a roast, so maybe it's time to break out the recipes.
  • NS I've put chicken and rice in the crock with carrots and mushrooms, chicken broth and white wine before.  It was delicious.

Sorry I don't have a specific recipe, I usually just cook by trial and error.
  • Ses- Just leave it on low,and don't stuff a bunch of paper around it,  and you'll be fine to leave it alone all day.  They're really pretty safe.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • This is another reason why Max will always be crated during the day...

He's taken to watching me cook on the stovetop. Feet on either the range top edge or oven handle, and he watches everything. He can reach to about 6 inches back from the wall. No place is safe except the top of the fridge and the top of the microwave.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Yep, just put it in raw. If you cook it on low, it cooks for 5-6 hourrs, so it will be very safe to eat.
