Pixie, I hope your H got home and obliterated that thing. I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're talking about, and it's the most disturbing insect I've ever seen (because I'm not googling cave cricket). They look like they have little eyes on the end of their wavy leg/antennae! I've seen them here a few times and once at my sister's house in Maryland when I was staying in her basement. They are fucking fast! I grabbed my hairspray and hosed it down, but then it fell off the wall and started running like crazy, so I took my shoe and beat the crap out of it until it died. So disgusting.

Fi got home last night and got all ready with a magazine to hit it - he moved the pictre it was behind and the thing bolted. Fi hit it with the magazine but those little effers are hard to kill!! So it fell off the wall and ran like hell as fi was chasing it trying to get it - it got into a crack in the floorboard before fi could kill it. SO it is still somewhere alive in our house!!! We're ready now though - we're getting this powdered bug killing stuff and putting it in the crack and we have bug killing things waiting in case he comes out again. SO gross.

Oh, how awful! I hate <em>almost</em> killing something, then knowing it's hiding, waiting, and probably vengeful somewhere in my house. Except your bug's brain is probably the size of the head of a pin, so it's likely already forgotten about the attempted murder, don't worry. ;)

Yeah, when I killed the one in the basement, it was pure adrenaline and wanting to be able to sleep that night that allowed me to do it. And I'm telling you, hairspray is the answer if you want to slow it down. Makes the legs stick together so it can't run as fast.

Ew...my friend in Massachusetts had house centipedes in her apartment and they were NASTY little buggers. Very fast and very squishy, and nothing should have that many legs!!! I only had to put up with them for seven days when I was visiting her but that was more than enough for me.
