I have a WR question

More like reception related.  We are working on the timeline of stuff for the reception.  Cocktail hour is at 5, dinner is at 6.  Dinner is a buffet though.  Would it be weird to do the toasts/thanking/slideshow of cute baby pics while people are in line for the buffet?  Or would it be better to wait until everyone has sat down?

Re: I have a WR question

  • If you do it while people are in line some people won't be able to see and hear, and anyone who is speaking will feel like they're competing against the noise of the people in line.

And no one will be able to talk about how delicious your food looks as the heap it on their plates.

I would wait till they are eating.

ETA: I would also make sure that you have enough buffet lines so that it goes pretty quickly.  I went to a wedding once with 200 people and 1 buffet line.  It took an hour for everyone to get their food.

  • We had a buffet dinner and did it like this:

During cocktail hour, did slideshow of pics
    Before dinner, did toasts/speaking
During dinner, played soft background music.
  • That makes sense. Thanks guys!

Yeah we're gonna have over 300 people most likely, so I'm going to ask for two full tables, a line on each side.  If not, we're going to suck it up and pay the extra per person for plated because we don't want people eating at awkward timing.
  • Wow 300 person buffet is tough.  Make sure you have communicated a good plan with your venue!

  • Chels- You could always do the toasts before dinner. We were introduced, did our first dance and cake cutting, toasts, and then had dinner. We had stations so it was kinda like a buffet. Then, as people finish, they can start dancing. That's how it worked at ours and it was easy.

  • We're only having 2 buffet lines for more than 300 people and it's what almost all of my family weddings (so approximately same amount of people) have done for a while. It has always worked out just fine. We're waiting until everyone is seated for our slideshow though.
