Platinum weddings...

I was wondering what the motivating factor is for couples to get their wedding featured on that show?  Is it just to AW or does the show provide them with something worth going through the hassle of doing the show?  Free videography I guess, but if you're spending $500k on a wedding it's not like them throwing you a few grand would be of any more use than not having to hire a videographer would be. 

I do love the show by the way, especially Indian weddings when they go completely over the top crazy and ride in on elephants and have see through platforms over the pool, etc. LOL

I worked with a girl who was on it.... (randomly).  She was one of the crazy Indian weddings.  She was a lawyer and he was an i-banker, but the parents of the bride were crazy Beverly Hills plastic surgeons, so they footed the bill.

I watch those shows, I have probably seen them all.  All I can say is that they end up looking exactly the same, just the colors change. 

I like the ones when the couple pays for everyone to come to their DW.  If I had that kind of money, I think that is what we would have done.  Free vacation for everyone!

I watch this show and love it, hehehe. But even with all that money some of the weddings end up looking tacky! Who would have thought? I saw one (I think it was Platinum Weddings at least) where the bride wore a regular princessy wedding dress dyed either black or red because those were their colors. It was super weird.

I have to admit, I feel a little kinship with Chelsea Clinton since we are almost the same age and we both went through the awkward braces/glasses/pimples thing at the same time. Not that I was getting covered by the Associated Press, mind you. However, I have to say that I am so jealous of her grown-up hair because it is always perfectly wavy/curly, like Connie Britton's on Friday Night Lights, and mine just lays there like emaciated straw and will require two pounds of Aqua Net to do anything with on my wedding day.

I love Platinum Weddings... but totally agree that some of the stuff they show is awful or tacky. I always think... "darn, they spent this much on that ugly thing... I would do WONDERS with that kind of money!"

But, I gotta say, thanks to my DVR, I watch them all in fast forward and if I see something I like or looks interesting I stop and watch. I've gotten some excellent ideas based on some of the things I've seen on there that I'm incorporating in my own wedding... only for 1% of the cost. lol 

It's fun to see how the other half lives... and I wonder, if I had that much money to burn, what would I do?

Either way, I can't get enough of all the wedding shows. I've been a planner for many years and now that I'm planning my own it's kinda nice to see new things being showcased on those shows.  It's fun.

As to why the do it dont forget- if they go on this show EVERYONE can see how FABULOUS they are!!

the people who are showcased on platinum weddings are the same people who breed the monsters on "my super sweet 16"... 

alas, im completely guilty of watching both
