Passport Question

Has anyone sent in their old passport to get a new one with their married name on it? If you have, do they take out your old pages with all your stamps and put them in the new book? I need a new passport but it's bothering me that it could come back empty. Do they send you your old passport back?

If memory serves, you have one year from the time your passport is originally issued in order to get your name changed for free, otherwise, you have to pay for a whole passport?  Correct?

If you have any visas with the old last name on it, you'll have to go through the visa place with the old and new passport to get it transferred.  You can't take pages out of the old one and apply it to the new passport, because to a professional scanner ala the airport, they will red flag it immediately, and put you in a special room ala the box.

ETA: Yes they send back your old passport with a hole punched through the cover!

LOL Kathryn... I kept it generic, but yeah... just because of additional pages added to your passport!

They do not transfer the pages but you get the old one back.  If your current passport was issued less than a year ago, there is no charge to change your name.  My old passport expired right before our wedding and I needed one for our honeymoon so I was pretty happy that I didn't have to pay again for the name change!
