Snarky Brides

Should I be offended??

Client calls me a moment ago with email problem. Lets call him Joe.

Joe: I am having a problem receiving emails.
Me: Ok, let me check one thing before we go over your email settings.
Joe: Are you having allergy problems?
Me: What do you mean? (I was confused, I'm not sniffly or anything)
Joe: You sound like you have a cold, like you are a little stuffy
Me: Umm, nope, I'm good. (Thinking- this is just how I talk!)

Anyways, made me laugh..and made me a little more self-conscious of my voice.

Re: Should I be offended??

  • Do you sound like Fran Dresscher? And I'd shake it off, he wasn't trying to be rude. I sound like an 11 year old on the phone. I hate recordings of my own voice.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Yea, when I had a home phone, people would call and ask to speak to my parents. gahhh
  • That's ok.......I answered the phone at work the other day this is what I get.

Me: Made up Mall name Management office how can I help you.

    Caller: Kyle?

    Me: Uh, no.

This was the conversation I just had with a vendor:

Me: Hi, my name is Betrothed and I'm calling to place an order with you.
Vendor: Oh hi Betrothed!  I've never talked to you before.
ME: Nope, I'm new in the department and the person who would normally place the order is out of the office today so here I am.  I was hoping you could help walk me through this process.
Vendor: Okay, what do you need?
Me: I need 3 large smocks (I then gave her the description and part number).
Vendor: You seem to have a good sense of humor so I'd imagine you'll appreciate this.  I just got off the phone with another customer who was ordering a bunch of 5XL smocks.  I thought it was so gross that anyone would wear that size and I have no idea how they could have more than one employed.
Me: Oh yeah? (fighting back urge to add a 5XL smock to our order)

I've gotten this from every single person I've met. My vocal chords are way scarred up from surgery, so my voice is pretty raspy. Apparently I sound like I have laryngitis.

I try not to get offended; it's not like they know, you know? But my voice has always been a really sore spot with me. I usually have FI order for me at resturants and whatnot, mostly because they can never hear me anyways.

<div>My dad is the same way, but from growing up in an unventilated, smoke filled house. He developed nodules on his vocal cords and has a very soft, raspy voice. he can speak up when he has to, but only after clearing his throat, and then not for very long or he starts coughing. I think male pride kept him from letting mom order for him in restaurants though. </div><div>

Yeah, I just hate being asked to repeat myself, and then if I'm sick 20 billion times a day. After 20 years of it, it's a little annoying.

Yea for real. And how is someone wearing a 5XL smock funny? What if you were a 5XL? They could have totally made you feel like poo.
    People can be such jerks.

Especially considering she wasn't even trying to make it sound funny, just gross, which I really didn't get.  Highly unprofessional.  By the time I got off the phone with her she had called me honey, sweetie, dear and dearest twice each.  She was a bit off her rocker.

Haha, this is true. That happens to my poor sister all the time- people ask her when she is due, etc.
  • Wait. You seriously think you should be offended by this? Seriously?
  • I sometimes have people go "Are you ok miss?" on the phone. I have really bad phone anxiety so when I manage to not hang up the phone immediately I get really out of breath and my voice gets really shaky.
