songs during the reception...(WR)

so FI and I have to fill out our requests for music stuff for the reception. I tend to NOT like it when music is used to introduce every single thing. I don't know though if it is only because I have seen it done badly.  Do we have to have a song when we cut the cake? When the WP walks in? For each speech giver? I mean, obviously we would have one for our first dance...but really, can I forgo all the others?

Thoughts? What did you do or are you planning on doing?

Re: songs during the reception...(WR)

  • I told the DJ to pick something for all that extraneous stuff. I'm not a fan of special songs either. It wouldn't bother me at all if we cut the cake in silence.

  • We did a song for first dance and a song for the cake. That's it.

  • I dont think you need specific songs if you dont want to.

I have not finalized everything yet.

Cake- "Candy Girl" (sugar, ah, honey honey, you are my candy girl...)

WP entrance- "Tonights gonna be a good night" Black eyed peas.

Our entrance- Not sure.  FI will want something ridic like the Rocky theme song.  I am trying hard to convince his otherwise.

Bouquet Toss- "Single Ladies"- I know, cliche but whatever.

First Dance- not sure yet, going back and forth between a bunch.

  • the only special spongs we had were those for the dances and the aisle. Everything else seemed like too much work. But we didn't have a DJ, and that probably would have made it a little easier.
  • At this point the only special songs planned for the reception are the first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances.  I was pondering I Just Haven't Met You Yet by Buble for the bouquet toss but then I'd have to come up with a garter toss song and don't really want a billion songs for every little thing.
  • For the cake, I know what I DON'T want - have you ever heard that hokey, cringe-worthy "The Bride cuts the cake.. the bride cuts the cake..." Followed by verses of "Groom cuts the cake," "Bride feeds the Groom," "Groom feeds the bride" Sung to the melody of that old farmer kid song.. "Hi ho the deli-o"

Am I making any sense?  I can hear it in my head but it's so bad I've blocked it out.
  • I haven't heard that either.  For good reason, it sounds!
  • Songs for cutting the cake and for toasts seem weird. I don't remember that being done before at weddings I've been to. But as far as everything else like introducing the WP and forst dance it's normal.

The DJ Co. I booked gave us a login for their website so you can go in and plan every little detail from music to announcements and what order you'd like things to go in. It's good in a way because you can be very specific depending on your circumstances but at the same time it's overwhelming. They give you so many options that someone like me overthinks each decision every step of the way.
