Laundry question

No where near as fun a post as serial killers and twins, BUT, FI wear white undershirts everyday and sweats. delightful. But, he gets pit stains and around the neck stains on these shirts. Ive tried bleach in the laundry load itself (these a little spot to put it in on my washer) but this isnt working at all. Does anyone have a tip/trick that works for stinky pit stains? (I may be coming to terms that I need to just pre-soak them in bleach prior to putting them in the washer but A: Im lazy and B: I hate the smell of bleach floating about my house)
So, ideas are welcome. and yes, poke fun. this is an embarrassing post, maybe i should have put it on TN. pwahaha

Re: Laundry question

  • I've heard that white vinegar is a britener/whitener. Have you tried that Tide Stain Release stuff?

  • New white shirts? H's dirty stained shirts mysteriously disappear in the wash and are replaced with nice clean ones.
  • Oh I haven't heard of white vinegar for clothing- I use it a lot for other cleaning. Would I just put it in the washer like the bleach?

and Sesh- Im leaning on just getting him new shirts too. I like how the washer has "eaten" some other ratty articles of clothing.

  • I put about a cup of white vinegar in with all of our wash loads.

The issue with pit stains is not sweat, but the aluminum in anti-perspirant. The vinegar helps to neutralize some of that. For stubborn stains, I have heard of using a paste of vinegar and kosher salt.

I had fought the exact same problem for ages until I discovered this. It's the only cure.

This. And with what he calls "These socks still work" I would not use to dust with due to the LARGE holes where a sock would be.

FI still wonders how his laundry looks so good.....I just tell him the Clorox2 we started using must really do the trick. But since they are whites I am sure regular bleach should do the trick?

[QUOTE]FI has the same problem so we tossed out all of his icky white shirt and bought new ones. I have been using the Tide stain release for the past few months (liquid kind) and it's really helped keep the stains from coming back. http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Yellow-Armpit-Stains has some other ideas, including using vodka!

  • Make him switch to the non-staining deodorant =P
  • Rub salt on them with a cut lemon, then set them out in the sun prior to washing.
