Really stupid wig question

I bought an awesome purple wig with bangs for the bachelorette party. It's wavy though and I kind of want it to be straight. Can I get it wet and dry it straight? Straighten it (I imagine it would melt?), lay it out and iron it with a towel protecting it?
Anything?

What do you want to know?

I'm heading out to a thrift store Wednesday in search of an old tablecloth for $2.  i will then dye it in the washer with a $2. dye (I'm thinking black) and then stitch tiny beads on it for some sparkle.  By the end of the day I hope to have what looks like a $50. tablecovering for less than $8.
