[QUOTE]In Response to Re: "I pledge allegiance" : See the thing is is that i never said it had to be anything. I just said it doesn't offend me and then asked what I thought was.a reasonable question about how people show it outside of the traditional ways. I just hate when people jump on that as 'Why don't you think im patriotic!" Because that's not what I said. At all.

Your siggy qoute makes me cringe..
  • "One nation, Under God, Indivisible ..." is very divisive. I think we should return to the verse without "under God" the way it was written. It's hard to be united when we want to believe in our country but not in the same God.

  • Sorry, I typed that from my phone and clearly it didnt work.

I personally show my patriotism by all of the pre-mentioned things.  I hang a flag, I stand up and say the Pledge, I sing the Anthem loud and proud with my hand over my heart.

I also vote, attend Veterans/Memorial/Independence Day celebrations and parades, support peoples rights, dont speak about the country as though we are innately bad people.  When I see I soldier I thank them and if we are out to dinner we usually pick up their tab or buy them a drink.  I also plan to continue my patriotism by teaching it to my future children.

Im not saying those are the only things that count as patriotism or that it is the way that it should be shown, its just what works for me and makes me feel good about being American.

Like I said, Im not here to judge how patriotic anyone is.  Only you know how much you love your country.  But I do think the more we take away from traditions (like saying the Pledge everyday in school), the more we do and injustice to our kids.

I do agree that if that if you find "Under God" offensive, you shouldnt have to say that part, but I dont think we should allow kids not to stand up in class for it.
