What do you pay...

.. for your hair? As in, routine salon treatments (not the wedding stuff).

Since I just got my hair done, it made me curious as to what you all might be paying.

Also, are you happy with what you pay?

Re: What do you pay...

  • For what I get done, my person is super cheap.  And super awesome.  And I super love her.

  • I'm the asshole who put $150+. That's because I get my hair cut and colored and it ends up being $160 total, plus tip, so like $200. This is why I don't get my hair done much. But I go to an Aveda salon and LOVE it.

  • I'm with J&K, for what I get done she's well worth what I pay. But I do try and stretch it as much as I can, sometimes I get to 8 or 9 weeks instead of 6.

  • I just get it cut, which is $35. I'm easy.

  • I'm a cheap-o. I go to Supercuts and pay less than $20 for a trim. But I don't do anything fancy with my hair.
  • When I go all out and get highlights as well as a cut, it's about $120 plus tip.  She's well worth that, and I don't do that very often, so I'm happy with that.  If I just get a cut, it's between $30-40.
  • I only get my hair cut like, twice a year, and it's 25 bucks.  An all over color is about 75 bucks.  A re-touch around 60ish.

  • Yeah, I get my hair cut, colored, highlighted and styled soooo last appointment was $220 plus tip. Although, I used the get the same service outside Boston for $170ish plus tip. I think the price difference is the close proximity to NYC and pretty standard for the area unless you go to a Supercuts or something.
  • Same as sesh- I went to an Aveda salon once and it was $50 with tip just for a trim. I've been going to super cuts since then and its about 12 bucks. lol
  • I voted What's a salon? I have been meaning to get my hair cut for over a month now, but I don't think I trust other people with scissors near my hair.

  • Wow, I can't believe I'm on the cheap end of this one, since shiit is so expensive here.  My regular cut/blow out is $25 plus tip.  Single process color runs me about $80 and highlights are around $100-125, so my regular bill depends on what I'm feeling like having done.

The last two times I've gone to Supercuts since I still (after 2 years of living here) can't find a salon I like and I refuse to drive up to my old one.  I have to say, I've gotten great cuts at Supercuts, but I hate the a la carte pricing thing they do.  I can't wait to find a good salon nearby.
  • Everywhere decent around here is super expensive. I had an all-over color (no highlights) and a cut, and it was 100 dollars. I need to find somewhere else to go.
  • I've gotten trims at Supercuts before. Last time I went they didn't even dry or style my hair at all, just cut it and sent me out with wet hair. I mean, yeah, it was $16, but it was somewhat embarassing. I've had fine trims there before, though. But everytime I'm at Aveda, I never want to go anywhere else. I was just there last weekend.

I'd suggest moving to MN.  I get all over color plus 2 foils, cut, shampoo, style, and brow wax for $65.

Same as Sesh and Stacey, I go to supercuts and pay $18-$20.

Edit:  And yes, I'm happy with what I pay :)

  • Up until a few weeks ago, I was platinum blonde for several years, with high lights and low lights every time I went. It was $140 (Including the tip) and took at least 3 hours in the salon every 8-12 weeks.

I seriously loved the color and how it looked on me ... but I was starting to get tired of all the maintenance-especially the having to literally schedule an entire Saturday around getting it done (and I'm trying to save up for a down payment on a car, so it seemed like a logical thing to 'cut' from my normal spending) so I just recently made the move back to my natural color. Going back to my natural cost $80 with the tip, and I was out of the salon in less than 2 hours. I like it, I'll keep it this way for a while ... but I really can't imagine that I won't eventually go back.

  • I pay less than $15 every 6 months or if there's an event happening - e.g. a party or a wedding or something...

Pretty much all of my split ends are gone now since the "new girl" gave me short layers instead of long layers... and with curly hair, that's now shoulder length! It was down my back!

It'll be a while again for the next hair cut.

  • I've given up on someone else trying to cut it like I want, so I cut it myself. I've colored mine and Manda's hair and cut Manda's for a few years now, so it's just the cost of color for us. I did invest in some decent shears and thinning shears, so I just cut hers in a bob and chop the shiit out of mine until it's choppy and fun. My problem is I'll cut on it every day for a week or so, tweaking it. LOL
  • I actually kinda envy all of you that can just get a trim at a place like Supercuts only once in a blue moon! lol

But I'm also unwilling to go back to my natural color. It's probably been well over a decade since I had that color. And I've got a cut that needs pretty regular maintenance.

To get a 3/4 blonde weave and a trim, I spend 120 including tip. Which is IMO a pretty darn good deal for where I live. Especially since my stylist comes to me.

I think the most I've paid for a routine color/cut is about 280. But, sadly, I'll admit that I've spent up to $1000 a shot on a few occasions for extensions. Yeah, I know, that was nuts.

  • WHOA. $1000.00?????????

    WTF?
  • $45 for the cut and $7 for the color. I color it myself, mostly because every time I pay someone to do it for me it comes out really ashy.

  • I pay $125 for a cut and color, but I have been skipping haircuts and just coloring to let it grow out. It is $75 for a color alone. It sucks because my hair grows out fast, so I need to color it every 5 weeks.

  • i pay $60 for a cut - with tip and tax it's about $80.  that's pretty average for where i live.

Umm, yeah, I know. I still kinda kick myself for doing that. But it looked SOOO good lol.

When I did that, I had about jaw length hair and I had it drawn down to mid-back or waist level. And since I have fine hair, I had to get extra put in so that it wouldn't look all stringy and would blend better.

I guess the upside of spending that much money on them was at least they lasted 3 months or so before I'd have to take them out.

  • I pay just over $50 with tip for a haircut, but I only go about four times a year.

    I do my own color.
  • Last trip to my Aveda salon was almost $200 including tip for partial highlights, cut and brow wax.  I think just a cut is around $50, which I do every few months or so.  FI hates that, but I love it, it's nice to have stylists that I really like finally, that don't dump a gazillion products in my hair to style it and then expect me to buy all of them to maintain the style.
