[QUOTE]They paid us. I would never have done it if they hadn't paid us - it was fun (our film crew was nice, which made it fun), but it was also 3.5 really long days of filming, and I just am not that much of a famewhore. Not sure if you were talking about the other show, if so then just ignore me :)

No, I meant yours. Ive always been curious. I think its interest that they seek out the couple and not the other way around, I always thought it was one of those things you have to apply to.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: I love HGTV :<strong> They found my blog,</strong> explained how it worked and how much we would get paid. It was enough to make it worth it for me. I am kind of embarrassed about being on TV, that wasn't the appeal for us. Once they'd told us the basics and we said we were interested, we had to send in a video of both of us just kind of introducing ourselves to a) show that we speak fluent English and b) show that we are not painfully boring and can be energetic on camera.

<div>Okay next question, did this creep you out or excite you? I guess if you have a blog you want people to find it... I just don't know about TV casting peeps. I'm guessing you had a ton of renovation stuff on there or just real estate shopping?</div><div>
</div><div>I'm just a really private person and am trying to wrap my head around being on a TV show. Or even a blog :P</div>

  • I think you can apply too, but they're apparently trying to get away from typical US expat spots like Costa Rica and Mexico just because they've done those places a million times, so they're actively looking for people in different countries via blogs, expat groups, etc.

Alright, I need to take the dogs out - nice talking to you all and again, sorry for ruining the illusion!
  • You didn't ruin anything! It was all very interesting, thanks for explaining.

  • Oh reddy, just saw yours, so I'll answer before I go - neither. It didn't creep me out because like you said, I'm the one who has an e-mail address posted on the internet for the world to see, it's not weird to me if you use it. And it didn't excite me because at first I didn't think we were eligible and didn't know you got paid so I was just like "ok, I will e-mail you back to be nice, but go away." There's nothing really about home stuff on my blog, it was just that they were looking for expats in Chile to try to find someone who might be a fit for the show.

My blog started as a way to keep in touch with people at home, and it's grown slowly, and I've met a bunch of people through it (including my BFF/our wedding photog), so I've gotten used to the idea of meeting internet strangers :)

  • Watching house hunters always makes me pretty depressed and annoyed as well.  Annoyed for the reasons voiced by Nebb previously and depressed because where I live (downtown Jersey City - 5 minute train ride to NYC) you need $500,000 minimum just to get a 1000 sq. foot 2 bedroom apartment (most likely without parking or outside space (-maybe a small deck- and with monthly maintanance fees).   On the flip side, I love my city and being right near NY.  Last might we went in to the City to see the New York philharmonic and tomorrow night we scored seats to a charity dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel In NYC.  We can go do runs every weekend in central park where they have races that are attended by 6,000+. Always something to do, even if it is as simple as taking a walk across the brooklyn bridge or riding bike along the jersey city waterway (best views of manhattan that there is). And my friends love to come visit (though they have to sleep on the couch of our tiny 1 bedroom).
