MISSY

Where did you swim with the dolphins? Was it everything I dream it would be? Would you do it again? Did you touch them? Did they make noises?

Everyone else:
Has anyone else swam with dolphins? Is it something as cool as I think it is?

We got to pet/play with the dolphins in the Keys, at the Dolphin Research Center. it was too expensive to get in the water. I love the way they feel and would like to swim with them one day.

We also played with a sea lion at Theater of the Sea. That was awesome, I'd never been that close to a sea lion before, let alone have one kiss me on the cheek.

Discovery Cove, in Orlando - they "talked" to us, we did indeed swim with them (we held on to their fin and they brought us in), and even kissed her (ok, J didn't, but the trainer had him hug her).
    Here's my kissy face picture:

I've got more, but I don't know if I have the disc with me or not. I had to switch my two bags to a single backpack when I was on crutches, and only did essentials.

I'll post more when I bring in the disc. Oh, and, we got to pet stingrays and mantas, too (J saw the camera there, and saw SIL set that one up, heheh). He was pretty thrilled with the dolphin thing, though.

The scratches on their faces are from other dolphins' teeth - that's how they greet each other.

PS - I would do that trip again in a heartbeat. We were very fortunate in that it was arranged for all of us (my mom and dad, brother, SIL and nephew went another day - nephew was too young, so my mom stayed out of the water with him, but they got him close enough to the water to all pose together). The "VIP" pass included Sea World and the water park, so we hit Sea World one afternoon too.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

I think you can do it at Atlantis in the bahamas too; I saw people down in there in wet suits as I drove by on the way to the casino. :-)

I swam with dolphins in Cuba. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I recommend that everybody take the opportunity to do it at some point, no matter where it is!

I also went whale watching once in Nova Scotia, and that was equally as amazing. They were so close to the boat we could almost touch them....fantastic!

Their skin is very slick and smooth and they'll roll over so you can pet their undersides - to a point (it was mating season, and apparently, well, we didn't want "happy" dolphins). And I did actually make lip contact with the dolphin - twice. The first time apparently wasn't long enough for her; she squawked her disapproval, so I had to do it again and hold it (for the photographer). Who knew the dolphin was a ho? John wasn't sure if he was going to swim or not, so I asked my SIL if she wanted to go again. That answer was a HELL YA. As you see all three of us did it (ok, she isn't in the pic above).

True story:  I have a friend who had to jerk off dolphins as part of her job at the Shedd Aquarium.  They are very, um, friendly creatures.

Yay, my favorite picture of Missy! I was very curious about the dolphin thing too. It's definitely one of the items on my bucket list, to swim and play with them (not THAT way, OWN). ;)
