Snarky Brides

Four Weddings

...on TLC. Anyone ever seen it? Wow!!

So basically it's 4 girls who have never met each other-- they entered into this "contest" where each of them has their wedding while the other 3 "rate" it. They rate the food, dress, venue and overall experience. And the groups of 3 get to comment on whatever it is that they do/don't like about the 4th bride's wedding. And whoever gets the most points wins their honeymoon.

MAN there are some picky catty girls in this world!!

Re: Four Weddings

  • Yikes. That sounds like a complete mean girl nightmare. I bet it stars a bunch of those type of chicks I wanted to smack in high school.

I have seen this and I actually almost started a thread on it last week and decided not to for some reason.

I like it for entertainment purposes, but I think the show is kind of shiity for a lot of reasons. Mostly because the girls who are judging eachother all have different ideas of what makes a nice wedding. And they can be so vain about it. It's like, "Well so and so had good food and a beautiful dress and a fun reception, but I think that having roses in your centerpieces is lame. I would never do that." YKWIM?

At the same time, these women sign up for it. So stupid is as stupid does I suppose.

[QUOTE]I'm not gonna do well in that show cuz ya know, Imma let them finish but I have like the best wedding ever!

    ...lol.

But yeah!! Some of them look like they they're having so much fun at the reception and whatever...then when it comes to rating they're like "Eh...I give her wedding a 5. I thought the ballroom looked drab." -- Like what??? The girl she was talking about had a huge, and obviously expensive, BEAUTIFUL wedding with really subtle warm colors. So she didn't like subtle warm colors? A 5??? Good grief Charlie Brown!!

And some go as far as to critique the kiss. Too mushy, too romantic, not enough, get a room....like, come on people.
  • I don't like how the brides come across snobby about ethnic weddings. There was an Indian wedding on one of the episodes and they all poo-poo'd the food because it wasn't "normal" wedding food. Yell

Right-- and one had poo-poo'd another girl for having grilled kabobs and casual food-- at her casual wedding. It wasn't "fancy" enough for a wedding she said. Uh...budget? Hello? lol It's not like they ordered carryout!
  • And that one girl who didn't like the morning wedding? The one who kept saying that chant to keep from crying at her wedding?

I hated her!! She was so immature but won an trip to Africa!! That was so worth it cause she was not happy about that trip. LOL!!
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
  • I really like that show.. But some of the girls definitely make me want to reach through the TV and throttle them..
  • I'm watching it now. Agree with PPs that people can be really obnoxious about "ethic" or slightly off-beat weddings.

Like on the episode tonight- the woman who admittedly didn't know much about weddings but still felt the need to say that she didn't like that the bride and groom saw each other before the ceremony.

The people I like rarely win.

  • Ok so based on the newest episode-- if you spend 30K on your wedding, you win the show.

A morning wedding is one thing. Having breakfast at 7:30am and then a wedding in the hot sun just doesn't make sense. Not everyone is a morning person. She could have at least had the ceremony before it was hot and then had brunch. But yes, they were very close minded about the whole thing.

  • I actually really enjoy this show. I agree that some of the ladies on it are snobby and ridiculous about the way they are judging other people's weddings, but I've seen a few where they are all open minded and nice about each other's weddings, grading them more on etiquette and preference rather than being petty.

Tonight's episode was a hoot though. I had never heard of butterfly releases and fish centerpieces before the Knot, but there they were! I thought the last cocktail reception wedding looked like a TON of fun too.

I have, unfortunately, been to weddings with both of these. The fish centerpieces turned out ok I think, but the butterfly release was a total bust. I think half the butterflies were dead or heavily sedated at the time of the release and it was basically just a huge flop.

That sounds awful. I've been to a dove release where a guest got pooped on. I don't like birds ick.

That's just gross. I don't understand the desire to have live animals as props at a wedding. Besides being possibly abusive, it seems like the things that could go wrong far outweigh any beauty that could come of it.

  • This show is hilarious. I love when people are offended by cultural diversity. OH GOD SAMBA DANCERS. OH GOD SPICY FOOD.

ughhh. But I still watch it. Because I like watching dumb hohos :)
  • you should see the UK version, in one episode the bride was standing at the door of the venue, cigarette in hand, shouting obsenities at one of the other 4 who was leaving early, she was leaving early because she took a break from dancing and the bride accused her of 'ruining my wedding'

    hideous
  • I had no idea there was a UK version - but it seems we in the US steal all our best show ideas from the British so I guess I'm not that surprised!

I thought the butterfly release was going to be really majestic and a great photo op, I was picturing all these butterflies floating around the bride and groom (we did it after the ceremony in place of bubbles, rice, sparklers, etc.) and it just didn't work out at all. They were in these little paper ... cones, almost, that you had to open and sort of tap on with your finger at just the right moment to get the butterfly to come out. About half the butterflies didn't come out at all and most of the rest were just sort of dazed. I was so disappointed! Then I came on The Knot (the wedding was shortly before H and I got engaged) and everyone railed on butterfly releases and I felt sort of guilty for thinking it was a good idea in theory.
