Snarky Brides

Silly things you used to believe

The kids and anatomy made me think of the crazy things I believed as a kid before I realized how things really work.

Forrr example-when I was younger I thought having sex was illegal. I think it stems from watching a movie when my uncle babysat me (age 5 maybe?) where the cops bust a couple getting it on in a hotel room. I thought they were being arrested for the sex, but that's not what it was.

I also used to think that you COULD NOT get pregnant or have a baby if you weren't already married. HA.

Any silly beliefs you remember from being a kid?

  • Hot pic!

I thought you couldn't throw up if you were sleeping. (learned this was not true)
I also thought you couldnt be sick out of both ends at the same time. (I've not proven this to be false)

I thought you could only ever love one person.
  • I used to think you got pregnant from kissing.  Or rather my quote to my mother was (in response to how babies are made) "You roll around naked and kiss and then a baby comes"

But I was 6 and hadnt gotten the sex talk yet.

  • I used to think babies came out of your butt. I remember being little and thinking "it won't be so bad it will just be like a really big poop". I was probably like 4 or 5. I got the full sex/baby talk when I was 8.

    Why thank you!

I used to think that too. FI is the only person I've ever truly loved, but if something were to happen to him I believe it would be possible to fall in love again later down the road.

Or did you mean at one time?

This.  I remember a discussion with a friend whose parents were never married.  I didn't understand how they weren't married, weren't divorced and had her.

I remember getting frustrated with my Dad when I asked him what his name was before he got married.  I thought he wasn't understanding what I was asking. I didn't understand why Mom got a new name and he didn't.

See round here and at my old age we didnt get the sex talk till at least middle school, if ever.  We got the period talk in 5th grade when we saw the movie with the lady who made ovaries out of pancake batter.

  • Sere- I meant ever, in life. I thought you loved one person, they loved you and you got married. It never crossed my mind the spouse could die. I never thought you could fall in and out of love though. I assumed it was permanent.

You could be on to something there...:P
  • I thought that the testicles were at the end of the penis, the end that went into the vagina. While my parents were incredibly informative verbally, I hadn't seen diagrams or anything. When the first Austin Powers movie came out there was the spaceship that everyone said looked like a penis. For some weird reason, I assumed that the testicles were on the end that went into the vagina. I have no idea why. And it made no sense to me at the time.
  • When I was about 5, a convicted rapist escaped from a prison that happened to be in the same area of the state where my family was camping - I remember hearing about it on the radio and asking my mom what "rape" was. She told me it was when I man put sticks and leaves and other objects up inside of a girls private parts. Sadly I believed this well into high school... :-/
  • My mom copped out kinda. She gave me a book to read when I was ten, I think. Then said if I had any questions I could ask her.

Lol Jas! That's kinda how I thought, too.

Ah, yes.  I used to think that, too. In some ways it still does make me sad thinking about what would happen if FI did pass away or if I did. I'd be scared that he'd forget me, even though I'd want him to move on and be happy in life and find love again. I just hope that doesn't happen!

  • My Mom didn't tell me anything either. I saw the video in 5th grade.
If I had got my period before that, I would have been that girl from the post earlier today that thought she was dying.

Roxy, that's the dirtiest thing I've ever heard you say! :O

  • Really jas? Maybe it's my want to be red hair.
  • I used to think epitome was pronounced the way it looks (epi-tome) and it and epi-to-me were two different words that just meant the same thing.
  • I'm vindictive. If something happens to me, I want my husband to PINE.

  • Ha Any, I used to think misled was pronounced my-zulled

  • When I was little, I thought you had to be married for a certain amount of time, and then God would just decide he wanted you to have a baby. When I first heard you had to have sex to have a baby, I went running to my mum during a dinner party and asked her. When she told me the truth, I burst into tears and said she was lying.

I also thought babies came out of your belly button.

M thought that you  had to use tampons made you pregnant.  She was 3 or so and saw me naked.  I gave her a pretty well thought out explanation of menstruation and the "equipment" needed.

We were down a Disney World and she was with me in the hotel shop. I put a box of Tampax, gum and a pack of cigarettes on the counter.

At that point she yelled 'MOM, YOU'RE HAVING ANOTHER  BABY?!

    sh!t

Honestly, that's kind of how I feel, too. And how FI feels I think. It would kill me to think anyone else could make him happy you know? But at the same time if I die young I don't want him lonely forever. Blah

    WTF?!?!

I mean, I can see not having a whole rape discussion that young, but mentioning private parts just takes it to a different level.

    I second this.
Perhaps you misheard, or misunderstood? I can't fathom why your mother would say that.
