Yeah, okay, cause I'm a lurker who none of you know. It's not like I post here ever. I just didn't read every thread from today.

[QUOTE]SB is a board made up of multiple posters with multiple different opinions. My personal opinion is that it's pretty screwed up to indict someone based on something that evidently is only 50% accurate. I brought it up because it was being discussed in two different threads. I've always been curious how accurate the whole IP thing is, and this more than confirms my suspicion.

I'm not so sure this is exactly a scientific poll, here, though.

So what? If it was a lurker it would be okay to jump all over them, but since you're a regular poster, it's inconceivable for someone to say something? Jeez, I'm rarely even on E and I know this and the Vick thread are being discussed at length, both there and here. It's not unfair for someone to say lurk before acting like MFJ is just shiiit-stirring.
• Searching for public info is creepier than creating that site? And then posting it on a second blog host when the first one took it down? THAT is a lot more trouble to go to.

Considering that MFJ was targetted in a really unfair way on that site, IMO, I'm still surprised at her reaction to the info about it going public, but whatever floats your boat.

Later all. I'm headed home.

• BAHAHAHA. Ok. Let me quit my job and go back to grad school and make my thesis on the statistical analysis of wedding forum drama and the accuracy of IP addresses, complete with a stratified sampling and a margin of error less than or equal to 0.2%.

Scientific or not, my point still stands.

• Whether someone created the site or not, hundreds of women spewed bile onto it. Theyre both at fault. I couldnt care less who any of them are either. Regardless, its still creepy as hell to do in depth research into a message board posters information to prove some half cocked theory.
• Even if you somehow hunted down the IPs of whoever actually submitted the secrets I'd be skeptical. Having been on the receiving end of a witch-hunt that was incorrectly targeting me, I'm surprised that YOU'RE surprised that I'm not wielding torches at the supposed guilty party from something that took place months ago.

Hey, I know. Maybe I'M the callout site creator. Dun dun dun.

[QUOTE]my work one is creepily accurate (with company name and all), but my home ones are always a little off. At home in Aus, it usually comes up in one of the major cities (Sydney or Melbourne) if you're with one of the big providers

I think this is the point most people are missing. It's not LIKELY that some rando's IP address will end up in a tiny town in the midwest, where a poster who fits other criteria happens to live. If the IP address showed up in NY or Chicago or Seattle and we were "witch hunting" someone who lived in one of those major cities where major servers and ISPs are based, I'd probably be on the other side of this argument.

It's pretty easy to miss the point when that's the first time it's been made. Before we were basically being told "I know something that you guys don't so just trust me on this." Um, no.
image

• i'm not arguing with you on that, mery. i'm just not sure why people are so ready to blame that knottie for all the callouts that other people submitted. like i said, there was some mean crap submitted to KPS about some of my friends and me. did we attack arbs about it? nope. i'm not on board with people using the creator as a scapegoat.
• I don't know if it makes any difference or not, but just so you don't think I'm sticking my head in the sand here, I thought it was future-mrs, too. The key word there is "think/thought." Not "know." There is a huge difference. That's the point I've been trying to make.

hahaha. i was addressing the fact that this is apparently being discussed in other threads on E and SB right now, too. watch, next someone's going to ask, "what happened between E and SB?" and that crap is going to be rehashed again.
• Sarah - I get it. But creating the site for the purpose it was created for was a crappy thing to do. I had people post things about me, too. KPS wasn't created in an effort to be hurtful to anyone. There's a big difference.

Also, I used to have IP capture turned on for anyone who commented on my livejournal. It was meant to be helpful in discerning legitimate comments from fake ones and tracking down spam. I don't think it's creepy. I mean, hell, ISPs are now tracking your cookies and using that information to market to you and sell your demographic info to companies. If you think it's all creepy, well, that's the consequence of using the internet.

I readily admit I do not know, either. I'm only basing my thoughts on the information I've been given by people who have supposedly collected that information. So I admit it might be flawed. I'm willing to believe that infomation was true based on no more than faith in the honestly and ability of the people who had it.
