Yes, it's real. They were talking about it on fox news a few minutes ago. They said they think it's a disgruntled employee who was demanding to talk to executives.

CNN tells me "James Lee, the man suspected of taking a hostage at the Discovery Channel headquarters, is an environmental protester who has been publishing criticisms of the network, according to a senior law enforcement official close to the investigation."

I'm curious as to what he's pissed about.

My newspaper is reporting that the guy has something strapped to his chest that looks like a bomb.

On the plus side:  They are reporting that the daycare was successfully evacuated

This guy has been holding protests outside the building for years.  I've talked to someone who used to work at Discovery, and she thought it was him the second she heard the news.

Apparently he is upset over over-population of the earth, I heard it on a news broadcast on the radio a bit ago.

Taking hostages or violent protests are never acceptable, and his views are pretty extreme, but the basics aren't entirely untruthful.  Yes, mass agriculture and overpopulation, etc. are bad for the earth.  But taking over the Discovery channel so they'll change their show lineup isn't the way to win friends, and it isn't a way to get your message heard.  This guy's a lunatic. 

I hope everyone is physically OK when this is over.  I know it's going to be emotionally scarring for some. 

Also I think it's kind of interesting that they evacuated the day care to a nearby McDonalds.
