Jeep Grand Cherookee drivers?

Anyone?
What kind of gas mileage do you get?

I kind of, sort of, just bought one and am curious

Re: Jeep Grand Cherookee drivers?

  • My mom's got a grand wagoneer. I believe it's an '06. And she's told me she's been getting around 16-17mpg (pretty much all town/city driving).

  • Jeeps are notorious for bad gas mileage. What else are you looking at Roxy?

  • My friend just bought an 08 and he gets around 17mpg, maybe a little more on highway.

  • I've had three, starting with a 1996, then 2000 and ended with 2004.

Best case highway was about 22 MPG.  I didn't drive it much around the city so I cant really comment on that.

  • Sorry guys! I was baking a cake/ cleaning the house!

Well, I looked at it today, took it for a drive yada yada. The lady said her husband bought it for her to drive since it would get better mileage than her Durango Hemi (which she said gets 16) but she didn't want to switch so they're selling it. Anyways, she's not exactly sure what kind of mileage it gets for that reason.

I talked to my dad (the car guru and  the one who told me to go look at this jeep) and he said to see if she'd get the carfacts report on it and if so to tell her I'd take it. Well, she got the report so I go pick it up monday. I can't pick it up before then because banks are closed and I don't exactly have that kind of cash lying around.

I know jeeps don't get the best mileage (this will be my 3rd jeep :)) but I refused to get anything other than an SUV and my dad likes Jeeps or Fords and well...
  • We're very much a Jeep family.  I had a Wrangler for about 5 years, my brother had a Cherokee, my sister had a Cherokee, and my mom has had a Wrangler and like 3 Grand Cherokees.  The Grand Cherokees got about 17-18mpg - pretty typical for that size of SUV.
    Congrats on the new ride!!

  • lharri- thanks!
Yea, I've had a Jeep Cherokee, Wrangler and now, this Grand Cherokee. My parents currently have a wrangler but they've also had a cherokee.

17-18 is fine haha. Right now I get 16 if I'm lucky, it sucks but typical for SUV's right?
  • I used to have a Grand Cherokee and all I know is that I filled it up less often than my car before it, a Mercury Mountaineer. I miss that Jeep every day but it was an '04 and in '07 three different windows at three different times rolled down by themselves and fell off their rollers and then cost $350 to fix it each time so I took the opportunity to get a new car - a Mustang - which I HATE!!!!

My mom also drove a Wrangler for years and she loved it. That thing lasted forever but she got a new car this year. I also miss that car. Sigh. I'm jealous. I told DH that when it gets time for us to get a new car I want another Grand Cherokee.
  • I have a Jeep and my FI and I are talking about trading our cars in to get a newer, nicer car (we really don't need two cars). I love my Jeep and if I had my way, I would never drive another type of car (FI wants a stationwagon because apparently he's a soccer mom on the inside). Good luck with the Jeep! They really do run FOREVER.
