July 2012 Weddings

Has anyone written their vows already?

My FI asked if I've done it yet and I said no. I felt so bad that he said he wrote his last month. There are so many things I want to say and I'm not sure how to narrow it down to a few lines. Guess I'll google vows and get a few ideas.

Re: Has anyone written their vows already?

  • We wrote them as a part of our ceremony but we are not saying anything outside of the norm.  I googled 'wedding script' and 'wedding ceremony template'  to get an idea of what to say.
  • We aren't writing our own. I probably wouldn't be able to get through them all without bawling like a baby. Our officiant gave us a long list of suggestions for both ceremony readings and vows and we chose from that list. We did alter the wording of the vows we chose a little bit. We're still undecided on if we're each going to memorize them, or if we're going to do the "repeat after me" thing.

  • I wrote mine about a year ago and FI wrote his almost 3 years ago...and now he's not sure if he wants to read our handwritten vows at the ceremony. (Thank goodness, I was so NERVOUS!), so I think we're writing our own vows, giving them to each other in a letter the morning of, and then reciting the "repeat after me" vows at the ceremony.  We'll come up with those this weekend with our officiant.

  • We're not even doing the "repeat after me" scenario... we're strictly having the priest read them and then only saying "I do" at the end.  I'll lose it and FI will probably pass out if we have to talk any more than is required.  We don't do public speaking haha

  • We are probably doing the same as k8888. I am going to be sobbing as it is, and my fiance is an awkward public speaker, so it will probably be for the best.
  • We are probably doing the repeat after me scenario.  I'd like to memorize them, but I think that I'll mess it up the day of, so for peace of mind I'd rather repeat.  I'm planning to do more personalized vows in our letters the morning of- not all serious things though (i.e. I promise to at least do the dishes at least once in a while).

  • We are doing the repeat after me scenario and then writing eachother a note that will be delivered to each of us by our MOH and BM before the wedding to read privately. Fi and I know we wouldn't be able to keep it together up there writing our own. I can't talk when I cry, and would sound like a squeeky mouse.

We met with our minister last week and finalized everything already!

We decided on these:  "Do you, Eric take Lindsay to be your wedded wife? Do you promise to treasure your friendship, and love her today, tomorrow and forever? In trusting and honoring her, laughing and crying with her, do you vow to share your life openly and honestly with her? In whatever may come, do you promise to always be there for her? Do you vow to be true to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health? Do yu promise to wilingly give your trust devotion, tenderness , and love only to her as your wife? If so, would you please say "I do?"

Then he wil read Eric's version for me and will each day "I do"

and then we will repeat this part to each other:

"I give you this ring/ as a constant reminder/ of my promise and commitment/ to love and grow with you/ and to be faithful to you / all the days of my life

OMG I'm such a mush, I am tearing up just reading these! lol!

I wrote my vows about a month ago. I don't think my fi has written his.
  • Nope...I was just thinking about this yesterday and when I woke up...we're not writing vows but we're writing love letters to each other to put in a memory box & to open the box on our 10th wedding anniversary.
  • We are not writing our own.  We are using the traditional Do you take this woman to be your wife, to love honor and cherish  from this day forward in sickness and in health for richer for poorer...

    You get the idea.
