Snarky Brides

nibbles

Tomorrow we are having company. We never have company.

My brother, our best man and his girlfriend are coming to visit and staying the night. Its whats called "Grape and Wine" here (huge booze fest) so we are going to the pub in the afternoon to get loaded and continue back to our house to finish off the afternoon/evening. Weve decided to just order pizzas for dinner.

Should I get nibbles? If I do, what should I get? Just chips and what not? Make some dips? Crackers & Cheese?

Please suggest things.

Re: nibbles

  •  I love that you call snacks "nibbles". Yes, nibbles with pizza should be fine. Maybe a taco salad dip?

Same here. It makes me giggle.

I think chips would be good, maybe a meat/cheese tray, veggie tray (am I the only dork who eats those?) um...
  • Taco salad dip sounds like too much effort to me, but post a recipe anyways.

I WOULD make crab dip, but I just sunk 80$ on beer so I wont be buying 2 cans of 7$ crab any time soon.
  • Spinach dip. Chips. Salsa. Queso.

  • I have to admit I dont know what queso is.

    Queso is spanish for cheese.

ETA: It's melted cheese. And it's delicious. My grandmother called snacks "nibbles" too. It must be a Canadian thing.

  • Queso= Cheese and salsa mixed together. Melt Velveeta. Add a drained can of Rotel tomatoes and green chiles. Mix and serve.

  • This one is pretty good. You can omit or substitute any ingredients that you don't like

  • Queso = Awesome. They also have a Queso in a jar in the chip/salsa aisle. At least here they do.

  • I dont know what rotel is either :( Canada doesnt have ANYTHING!! geeze. I might have to try and figure that out though, is it just normal canned tomatoes or something? Is rotel just the brand of canned tomatoes?

It might be a canadian thing to call it nibbles, though I call it that because british people do and I love saying british things. I think a lot of canadians do that.
  • Rotel is a brand of canned diced tomatoes mixed with green chiles. http://www.amazon.com/Rotel-Tomato-Green-Chilies-10-Ounce/dp/B000H151LA

I have never lived in a place with no Rotel.

  • What's your budget Nebb?

Low: Chips with assorted dips: I like French Onion, Salsa, and the fake Cheese dip that the makers of Tostitos make.

Medium: Add in Guacamole to the above as well as fresh veggies. You could also add in green apple slices with dip (cream cheese mixed with some brown sugar, spread out on a dish, then spread caramel sauce on it (you can find it by the chocolate dip stuff near the strawberries in the produce area), then sprinkle loads of scor bits on top. I also like sprinkling mini peanut butter chips on it.

High: I would do a cheese, bread, and chocolate theme. Goat Cheese with Fig Spread, Blue Cheese with some apricot jam, a nice cheddar, straweberries with chocolate to dip it in and A couple of nice loaves of French bread.

    :) Now I want food.
  • I have a confession number... I hate cheese like that. I worked at a stupid cheese shop once and I quit because they made me eat all of it and wanted me to sell it. I just couldnt do it
  • cheese like what? Soft ones? I just thought of cheese because of the wine fest. If you prefer hard cheeses it works too.

I personally love asian style hot apps too. Nothing like a great spring roll or pot sticker.

And anything involving seafood, like battered shrimp, shrimp rings, sushi.

  • every kind of cheese, 90% of them tasted like socks. :(

<div>That's just bad cheese. What a waste. Cheese is so good. It the main reason I can't go dairy free. That and yogurt. And ice cream (I could do with sorbet). And milk (I guess I could get used to soy in my chai lattes.</div>
  • No way they were all good quality cheeses, some from canada, US and around the world. I just hated them.
  • Sun chips and french onion dip.

  • I miss queso =(

Seconding the chips and (french onion, yum) dips, crackers and cheese, etc.

  • I'm sad for you that you don't like cheese. Cheese just makes everything better

  • That doesnt look very tasty to me, but im nota  big sweet fanatic. I am all about the salt/savoury. I like mild/commercial cheeses, thats it.
  • Haven't read the thread yet.....but I read the title as Nipples.....hmmmmmm
  • My Go-To-Fave is cream cheese with salsa on top, and tortilla chips.. I think all together here, it's less than $10. 1 bar of cream cheese can normally feed me (I'm a FK), so you could pick up two..

    :)
