Thank You Cards

I was on another board and I read that you do not have to give people who come to your wedding a thank you card unless they give you a gift. The reception is the thank you for coming. Do you guys agree with this? I  just had a conversation with my MOH and she could not believe that I said I was not sending people thank you cards for coming. She was wondering how we were going to know who came because we are not dong a traditional guestbook.

I decided to write thank you notes to everyone attending and use them as escort cards or place cards. That way everyone gets one. If we get gifts at the reception, I'll write a thank you on a postcard from Hawaii. 

Of course, our guest list is small enough to do this, and I'll notice if someone RSVP'd and is missing.

We arent doing a traditional guest book either. My understanding is the same as yours...

I am curious to see peoples responses.

Even though my wedding is far away, I plan to write thank you cards for everyone.  IMO, those who attend my wedding should be thanked for celebrating the wedding/marriage with me and my fi, even if they don't bring us a gift.  I may be alone in this, but I feel weddings are often an inconvenience (sometimes buying clothes to wear, taking time off from work, traveling, hiring babysitters, etc.) and a thank you is polite.

Well let me clear one thing up. We are getting Thank you cards from our photographer that will be placed on the tables for all of our guests. So no one will walk away with no type of thank you.
