AW: Crazy Aunt

I am officially a married woman and my wedding day could know have been more perfect! The weather was gorgeous and everything seemed to fall into place even better than I had planned.

I just need to vent about my crazy aunt. As some of you know, I had a destination wedding in the Canadian Rockies. I sent my Oma (grandma) an invite, but was not expecting her to come do to her health. I was pleasantly surprised when she RSVPed yes. I later caught wind that my crazy aunt had coerced her to come so that my Oma would pay half of the way there. I was not very pleased about that. I came to know that my aunt regularly left oma unattended for extended periods of time in the van so she could go off site seeing or shopping. I saw pictures of my aunt almost pushing her up a hiking trail. My sister asked about these pictures and my aunt proudly said she practically pulled her up the hill.

Anyway, the day after the wedding, my Oma had a fall in a driveway and is now in the hospital with two broken ribs. I feel as though this could have been avoided had my aunt taken better care of her. I am livid and don't know what to do. Last I heard, my aunt is flying back home and living my oma high and dry in the hospital. I will drive to that city (5 hours away) and accompany her on a flight home if need be. Thus far all tests have come back normal (trying to rule out a stroke or heart attack as a cause of the fall).

Why is common sense not so common?

Re: AW: Crazy Aunt

  • My aunt was taking the pictures. Family intervened as much as they could, but my aunt vacationed in order places then the rest of us. All we know is that she fell in the driveway. I assume she lost balance by tripping or stumbling and fell. I have no information to that matter. They are doing tests in hospital to determine if there could be a secondary factor to her fall.  I spoke to my mom at the wedding (prior to the fall) and we all agreed we had to keep an eye on Oma and make sure she was taken care of. Her memory, judgement, initiation, and physical condition has decreased drastically in the last year.

  • I hope your Oma is okay and that it was a regular fall and not something else. Your aunt needs a serious come to Jesus talk.

How did your brother like being the Lord of the Rings? Your sig picture is gorgeous.
  • Update

My Oma is doing better. She was discharged from the hospital today and can hopefully take a 3.5 hour flight to her home in the next couple of days. She is weak, but is getting stronger every day.

The doctors have determined that she fell because she overdid it. My mom and her sisters have determined that I and my cousins can't get mad at my aunt (she married into the family) because she is "not bright enough to understand the reprecussions of her actions". She has no idea that she was the leading cause of Oma getting overworked.

All in all, things are looking up and I have to be tongue in cheek about my disapproval of my aunt's actions.

My brother LOVED being the Lord of the Rings. He was pretty quiet during the ceremony. When the wedding commissioner said "You may now kiss the bride", he cracked the hugest smile and chuckled a bit. The timing was perfect.

  • I'm very glad to hear your Oma is doing better. It's sad that your crazy aunt even did this. There's always one in the family...related or not related, unfortunately.

I know I replied to your other post about the cranes, but I'll say it here too.....They are absolutely gorgeous and I love how colorful they are. How long did it take to do?

Were there alot of them or this single bunch?
