SCAM!!! ( an FYI)

A while back, I had purchased plane tickets for FI and I to go to Texas through Travelocity. Apparently (but not really), I checked some box ok'ing this company called SavingsAce to take $19.95 out of my checking account. I called the # that was on my online bank statement and talked to this a-hole who insisted that I signed up for this crap and refused to refund me the money and told me that all he could do was remove my membership from this company! After I argued for quite a while and had him LAUGH at me, I asked to speak to a supervisor....AND after I dropped a few F-bombs. They finally agreed to refund my money AFTER I threatened to contact my lawyer. I swear...I don't know how these people sleep at night! So, be very aware when using any of those sights........

  • I've used Travelocity several times and have never seen this box to check. I guess next time I'll have to be more aware. At least you got your money back. I hate those companies that pretend to give you some free or cheap service then make it so hard to cancel a membership you didn't even know you signed up for.
  • You threatened to contact your lawyer over $20?

Next time just call your bank and politely ask them to handle it.

  • I love using the online travel agents (Priceline, Expedia, etc.), but they have so many of those boxes you have to uncheck, to opt out of the optional travel insurance, to opt out of choosing your seat (for a mere $15), and everything they do.

If, for some reason, you don't get your money refunded, visit elliott.org. The guy who runs this site, Chris Elliott, is a travel journal and an ombudsman for travelers. He's very smart about anything travel-related and has helped me.

They got nasty with me, so I got nasty with them. And if someone takes money out of my bank account without my authorization, no matter what the amount, I will get nasty.....just sayin'

  • Threatening to call your lawyer isn't nasty, it's just stupid and obnoxious.  Lawyers charge several hundreds of dollars an hour.  You were only out $20.  I doubt they were scared into refunding your money by the threat of legal action.  I would have just laughed at you.

  • I don't even have a lawyer and I'm well aware of what they charge.....I wasn't getting anywhere with them and they weren't aggreeing to give me the money back that was MINE. I did what I had to do to get back what was owed to me. Call me petty, obnoxious, whatever, but $20 or $100, it's my money.

  • I use my credit card for everything and let them deal with it.  I heart Discover like whoa.

[QUOTE]Haha!  I would have laughed too.  They probably gave you your money back because you annoyed them and it wasn't worth your $20. Also, I don't understand how this happened in the first place.  I've used Travelocity a number of times and never had this problem.  Do you not read things before clicking "okay"?

Yes, I did check, double and triple check that I UN-checked all the boxes that automatically sign you up for stuff. But apparently it didn't work. I have used theses sights many times before and have never had an issue. And futhermore, I'm so glad that I posted this as a friendly FYI to people and I was made to feel like a complete a$$. I will make sure that I take this into consideration in the future...

  • Honestly, Ski, I would have done the same thing as you. Actually, I did recently, but it was in person at a car dealership and it was for $400. But, your situation still sucks, and I've read several stories on C. Elliott's website, from people saying the same thing as you.

I would get pissed even if it was just $1 that was being taken out of my account. It's the principle of the matter, that if you didn't authorize the money to be taken, then it shouldn't be charged to your account. And $20 can be a lot of money to some people.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: SCAM!!! ( an FYI) : Ahh the voice of reason :)  The people who scream at customer service reps have obviously never worked in the industry.  And thank you for that last sentence.  It was <strong>diving</strong> me nuts.

<div>I had to point that out, just for the irony.</div><div>
</div><div>I'll be honest.  I usually get my way with customer service (and don't stop calling until I do.  Unless it's really my fault or whatever.)  I credit that to the fact that I've worked customer service since I was 16.  If you're nice and patient, they're far more likely to work with you.  Sometimes the person who answers the phone really honestly cannot do anything to help you/fix your problem.  It's not their fault.</div>
  • LOL!  You got me, but at least I only made the mistake once, so it was clearly a mistake ;)

I'm the same way with Customer Service.  99% of the time I get my way because I know how to talk to them.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010
