Tell me about your wedding album

Im trying to pick the pictures for my long overdue wedding album and Im having a really hard time.  I can have as many pages as I want, but im just wondering.

How many pictures did you choose?
Did you pick ones that included small details like guest book table, seating cards, flowers, etc?

I have a little over 1200 proofs to choose from and Im overwhelmed.

  • ummm. we didn't make one yet. I am no help.

  • I made ours. We just had pictures other people took, no pro shots, so it was easy since there weren't many great ones.

But I made more of a scrapbook mixed with pictures, stickers, and mementos from the wedding, like part of my dress, gemstones used for the centerpieces, my hair clip, etc. Each page has a theme, like getting ready, the ceremony, friends, family shots, and so on. I'm actually really proud of it.
  • 1200 photos is a lot.  I'm overwhelmed FOR you.

We actually just finished picking ours.  We only had just under 200 proofs to choose from; we picked a handful of 5x7's for around the house, a couple 8x10's and then one 11x16.  We're kinda doing two wedding albums - one, we are just going to order the full proofbook (because I mean, I want them all!) and the other is a scrapbook that Ben's mom made for us and presented to me at my bachelorette party.  She made it easy - I just went through and picked certain pictures that fit into the section themes she made.

I am probably no help.  Maybe just decide on a set of pictures from each part of the day?  ie Getting ready, standard posed pics, actual ceremony pics, cake cutting, etc?

  • All the ones that made me look fabulous!

Just kidding, I only did mine on Shutterfly. So I dont envy you this task, 1200 is a lot to go through.

I tried to go section by section, ex. getting ready, ceremony or first look, then exit, reception, and details. Maybe if you separate them out is will be easier to pick each section?

  • Our album is almost 100 pages. Most of the smaller detail photos are included. Some pages have one photo, and some have four, so I would guess there are about 250 photos in all. I did it all myself and it took a couple of months to design because I am horribly indecisive and kept changing my mind.

  • For ours we had 32 pages, and 93 images. Ours was that almost scrapbook style, with multiple pictures per page and some images used as a big watermark style background. The number of pages was determined by our photo package, and then our photog told us not to do more than 95 images for that number of pages. A lot of our detail pics (napkins, flowers, centerpieces, getaway car, etc.) were used for the page backgrounds, because they were important for me to have in there.

And I totally feel you on being overwhelmed. It took me months to figure out which pictures.

Our photog had us choose 80-100 pictures for our album, I think. We had tons of proofs too, so it was such a hard decision! We chose mostly photos of us and our guests, trying to tell the "story" of the day, but there were a few "detail" photos that we used as backgrounds for our pages (like the stained glass windows in the church). If you're intersted in seeing our album layout, you can visit http://www.mmproofs.com/jm_album. We just got ours back from the printing company in Italy, and it is STUNNING!

ETA: Our album is about thirty pages, but they're really thick pages. I think it weighs about twenty pounds! ;)
  • My album in my package can be 50 pages, but my photog said if i want to go up to 70-80 pages its fine.  If I want to go more, ill just pay the extra.  My book will also be 16X20 so hopefully each page can fit a good amount of pics.  I like the idea of the detail pics being the background.

Luckily, my proof cd is in order of the day so it was easy to pick the ones I like, but its things like the BP.  I had a large BP so do I only do group shots with them, or individual ones?  Or guest tables, I had 24 tables and the phog took a pic at each one.  Can I only choose a few or them all?  I know I can do whatever I want, but it just sucks.  Especially since I like most of the pictures.

The good news is that im 700 pictures in and chose 120 so far.

That's what I did as well. We had 800 photos and I had to make 3 rounds of cuts before I had the final amount. First I cut out pictures I knew I didn't want, then a week later I went back and picked my favorites out of each group. I still had too many, so I waited another week until I narrowed it down to the 250ish. I understand the overwhelmed feeling. It definitely helped me to walk away from it for a week each time.

  • We had 900 pics, so I know it is rough. Our photographer actually helped us pic some. We have a 30 page album, and just got it the other day. Basically the first page has our invitation pic with another one of us. The next set of pages has me getting ready (also flower and dress details), then me with BP and my family, next set is of just me. After that is DH pics, then him and the GM. After that is our first look pics and outside pics. Next is our whole BP together and a few family pics. After that is ceremony, then everyone walking into the reception. Next is our first dance, FD dance, MS dance and speeches and toast. Next is the reception room (some detail pics..ie the cake, our topper and the ballroom) with some fun pics and familypics, along with cake cutting and serving. The last page is pretty much 2 pics of us, one at the end of the night celebrating and one dancing together.

Sorry for the run-on stuff but I was trying to explain how ours was kinda set up. I thought our photographer did a great job with separating it all.

We had 1200 pics, but it wasn't that hard.  Our photog asked us to pick like 30 favorites (like *must haves* in the album) and then she arranged the rest.  So I picked out the best pics of us and our favorite familiy portraits and some details, etc.  She made a beautiful album but it is only 20 pages, so there isn't a TON in it.  I have a CD of all our images and I will probably make an additional album so we can have actual prints of more of hte amazing images.  The prof album is kind of like a highlights book.

Blueyed:  you are getting a 16x20 size album?  Holy wow that is HUGE!  (ours is 10x10)  Where do you store something like that?  It won't fit in a bookshelf... I want to see a pic when you get it!  :)

Lol, it legit comes in a suitcase to carry it.  It was what came with the package we got.  We also get 2 8X12 parents books and 12 4X5 friends books that will be the same as our book.

I just finished picking out the pics I like and its 165 pictures.  Now I want to know how many pages that will be.  Hopefully my photog calls back soon.

Our photographer actually made us about twice as many pages as would go in our album and we just picked the pages that we liked. There was a variety of pictures on each page, from just one big picture that took up the whole page, to 5 or 6 or more. That was much easier than going through all 1000+ of our pictures, and we had our albums about 8 weeks after the wedding! We did pick a pretty good variety of pictures and the album is laid out in roughly chronological order, with the getting ready pics at the front, then ceremony, post-ceremony artistic pictures and formals, and then the reception at the end.

I made ours on Picaboo. I wanted to have full control over what the pages looked like and I wanted to integrate non-pro pics that I liked too. I used layflat pages and I think it had about 250 pictures all told? I also integrated pics of stationary and stuff...

(there was a link to my album here, but alas, the internet is a dangerous place...)
  • okay...I take it back, there is lots of personal info in it, it is coming down...sorry, I am dumb.
  • I saw it before you deleted.  I love it!

<div>good, that's who it was intended for...I loved making it, but I scrapbook (well, used to, now I just make that kind of album, digital scrapbooking I suppose) so it isn't surprising. Expensive, yes, surprising, no. </div>
