Snarky Brides

2 things.

1. Awesome or lame?
http://www.weartodaygonetomorrow.com/Dresses-s/188.htm
I could get this dress http://www.weartodaygonetomorrow.com/Jeweled-Dress-Silk-p/abs1005-pk.htm for $43 for the week. Thats cheaper than buying a new dress and I really only like to wear special occasion dresses once.

2. What do you think If I got bangs like Zooey Deschanel?
It could look something like this (just uh, a little more natural):

  • I have to say no to both.

Renting the dresses for that much seems like a waste to me. You could rent 3 dresses and have owned one of them at that point.

And I only say no to the hair because I hate bangs.  I think its because they look stupid on me and I still have trauma from the 80's bangs my mom cut on me when I was 6.  They started halfway up my skull.  Then when I was in 5th grade she permed them.

  • Yeaaa, I had really bad bangs/ permed hair when I was 10. Not good.

Ok, I like these bangs better:

  • Where are you getting this stuff??  Lol.

  • Instyle.com. They have this awesoooome makeover tool. I'm obsessed, you can do your makeup too.
  • I love side swept bangs, but I'm partial to them.  I think you can pull of long straight bangs, though, becasue your face is more narrow.
  • I've had long, side bangs before. THey were alright I just didn't like them being in my face/ mouth all the time. I'm curious to try shorter, straight bangs. I've also never had bangs since I've been a brunette.
  • I think you shoudl go for it.  Bangs are very fall.  FI jokes that he's had at least 5 different gfs over the past few years because I change my hair so much.
  • Hahah thats funny. I would wait until it gets cooler (uh, oct here haha) so I don't sweat them into a wet mop...
  • Yep, that's why I wait until the cooler months, too.  It's so damn humid here and I have naturally curly hair, so I can't have anything on my face in the summer.
  • You have to remember with bangs you ALWAYS have to style them. I am a ponytail girl, so my hair stylist (and BFF) refuses to cut my hair to bangs. Even if I beg her she reminds me I am lazy when I am just going to the grocery store.

Maybe try short layers that frame your face, and then you can style them to be like sweeping bangs?
  • I never, ever wear my hair in a pony tail in public, I always style it so I don't think that would be too big of a deal. I've had long layers and side bangs and want something different. I know what you mean though...hair can be such a pain haha
  • I have to have bangs. My forehead is flat and I look odd without them. For you, though I would say skip the bangs. They are a pain anyway. They grow out fast and have to be trimmed so often.
  • I like the second bangs better than the first. I would also cut them a bit thinner than the demo picture. I think super thick bangs would overpower your face.

  • Have you tried Rent the Runway to rent dresses?

  • I say go for it with the bangs.  It's only hair, and it grows.  I went for straight across bangs (normally I'm a longer layers sweepy bangs kinda girl) and, while I thought they were fun, my H wasn't a huge fan.  So, while they were a good length with the original cut I styled them down, and then pinned them up until I could sweep them to the side.

  • Yay for bangs.  Do it.  I like the idea of renting a dress, too.  Hmmm.

Also, ygfbpm you haven't responded to, "babe."
  • I love bangs, and the shorter ones look better on you. THey should be long enough to put back in a headband.

I've had really short hair with bangs all summer and then 2 weeks ago, FI suggested that I let it grow out so I have more options when it comes to wedding hair. He has a point, but now the bangs are too long so I have to push them to the side and my forehead looks like a peeled onion. Hopefully I can still have bangs for the wedding.

  • I got thick, straight across bangs last fall, using Zoey as my inspiration.  OH MY GIOD I HATED THEM.  Hated.  Seething hatred.  The novelty wears off after about four days and then you're just stuck for months trying to grow them out.

  • The dress rental is awesome.  There is another website called renttherunway.com that does the same thing - though they are more expensive than $43 (usually $50 and up).  Especially for party dresses that you will most likely only wear once - I would definitely consider renting.  I feel so guilty getting rid of a dress after wearing it once, but I don't have enough occassions to wear them multiple times.

I like both bangs on you - but I think the sideswept one is more sophisticated.

  • I like the dress rental idea. It's sort of like bag, borrow or steal. But I would be afraid it wouldn't fit right and then I'd be stuck paying that much for a dress I wouldn't wear.

  • Thanks girls! I do worry I wouldn't like the bangs and they'd be a pain to pull back but  I also think it'd be fun to try something new.

For the dress thing, I think I'm going to do it for the dress for the upcoming wedding. I figure too, I can go to Nordstrom and try on a dress by whichever designer I prefer so I have a good idea of sizing,
  • Trying it on at the store is a good idea. I'm not sure about the link you posted, but I know with rent the runway they send you the dress in two sizes so you can try them both.

  • No to renting the dress- buying is far more fun!- and perhaps to the fringe, but I'd need to see a better picture to judge! haha.
