I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I guess it's a bit late to jump in on this, but I ran the OP past my fiancé and he agreed that the chest freezer needs to go in the garage/basement. So there. :)

I think we married the same man. For real. Maybe they can marry each other so we can be together, forever. I'll let you put the freezer in the garage. :)

Ohhhh I love that island....very pretty

and the freezer definitely belongs in the garage without a doubt.  Odds are the kitchen breaker can't hold that much power anyways since you have a stove, dw and fridge and will probably keep blowing.

Marrying an electrician is coming in pretty handy for me :)

The stove is gas, so I'm not sure if that pulls off the electric and the electric has been updated, so it shouldn't be a problem.

We have the jerk freezer in our kitchen now (it's a rental, so I don't care) and we haven't blown any breakers.

[QUOTE]Big ugly freezers don't live in kitchens.  They live in garages and basements.  They're not housebroken.

Haha this made me giggle. And I agree ours is in the basement!

  • Sorry this is late, I'm still relatively new and stumbled on this one, but had to make two comments - both of which are practical and might appeal to a male.

    1.  Chest Freezers are heavy.  Can the kitchen floor support that much weight?  (Only slightly likely to work....the other appliances are fine, so why wouldn't the chest be ok, right?  But talk in terms of the chest freezer being an addition that would be too much.)  Garage floors are cement and rarely have weight issues - they house cars for Pete's sake!

    2.  More importantly - you have wood floors in your kitchen and when chest freezers go bad, guess what happens?  They leak water everywhere.  If this happens when you are not at home, you will not only have a mess, your floors will be ruined.  Again, with garage floors, if this happens, who cares?  You wipe up the water and air it out....no expense.

    Good luck!
  • Since I have absolutely nothing to do at work today, I just got done Googling the effects of keeping a chest freezer in a non temperature regulated building.

I'm going to put together a booklet presentation for Tim.

    I win.

  • We actually have friends who have a black chest freezer in teh kitchen.  BUT, they had a countertop built that goes on top of it and is attached (so you lift the countertop to get into the freezer.  They painted it black so it matches their appliances and the front of the countertop they had made is really decorative and matches the moulding in the house.  The only irritating thing is that if they have to get into it they have to take everything off the countertop, then back on.  Maybe something like that could be a comprmise?  And if there is space, maybe you can buy a cabinet to either side of it for some storage?

    I was actually considering this.

I'm also seriously thinking that if I have the movers put it directly in the garage that Tim will just say fvck it and leave it there.
