diamond in the rough engagement ring

what do y'all think of rough diamond e-rings? something like the one below.

i think they are absolutely gorgeous rings. and i love how unique they are. i think the flaws in them are amazing. but i don't want a ring i'm going to wear forever look cheap and/or fake.

i work at a large multibillion dollar firm, and first impression in everything. i don't want people to think it's just a cheap ring, especially since rough diamond rings are still very expensive rings!

please let me know your opinion! i would love any input!

Re: diamond in the rough engagement ring

  • Don't get something if you're going to feel self-conscious about wearing it. My e-ring is not a diamond at all, but a lab sapphire. I don't care what anyone thinks of it but me, because I love it. It was not expensive, either, for that matter. Which was kind of the point, since we're poor.

  • I don't really think it matters what others think about your engagement ring. The most important part is that you love it.

  • I didn't want a diamond so I'm a huge fan of unique and alternative erings. With the right setting I think a rough diamond ring would be stunning.

  • I really love those rings, but not as e-rings. I guess I'm just traditional that way, but they seem trendy and I feel like you'd be more likely to get sick of it after a while.

  • Don't go for anything trendy, because this ring is forever, if you are not sure, you may not like it in a few years.

  • let me be one of many to tell you that your ring should matter to nobody but you and your partner. mine (like many others) isnt even a diamond...its not even sapphire. Mine is aquamarine and i couldnt want anything else. I have had many different people tell me how beautiful my ring was and how well is suited me and my personality. and i feel better knowing that my fiance didnt have to break the bank to buy me something perfect.

  • I agree you have to love your ring. My e-ring isn't even gold, its silver. I didn't pick it put, but knowing what it means and that It came from the heart, makes me love it! My wedding ring isnt a traditional wedding ring either.
  • I would check into designer/custom-made rings, such as those available on Etsy or made by such folks as Alex Sepkus.

In Washington D.C., for example, we have a fabulous designer jewelry boutique (family-owned, not a chain) with a dozen or so different designers, many of whom work in semi-precious, unfaceted diamonds, etc. - this store is called I. Gorman.  Highlights of their collection are on their website.

Another resource for avante garde rings of high quality that would not look cheap (unless the person reviewing knows little about jewelry) is http://www.custommade.com/gallery/custom-rings/ - here you can commission a ring to your specifications, describe a ring you saw, send the image of a ring you found online, etc.

(My fiance and I are working with a custom jewelry designer from www.custommade.com to design a unique ring for just me, using a combination of family gifted (heirloom) diamonds and vividly colored green and blue gemstones (my preference.))

    Good luck!
