Bridal Shower Games

I'm a PW today, I know.

My cousin's bridal shower is this weekend, and another bridesmaid and I are in charge of games. We don't want to do many, maybe 2 or 3, but I'm at a loss on what to do. I didn't do any at mine, and most of the showers I've been to also didn't have games. Help me!

Re: Bridal Shower Games

  • I'm going to lurk around on this thread because my shower is also coming up and I am undecided about games. All the ones I read about seem kind of... not fun.

Milkduds- That one sounds ok. I don't want to do any lame ones like, 'how well do you know the bride'. I don't need to know her favorite late night talk show or how she folds her underwear.

My aunt did a funny word-related thing for me though. She would write down random phrases that I said while opening gifts, and they all somehow turned out to be naughty. Then I was supposed to read them to H on our wedding night. It was funny and everyone had a laugh, especially me because I didn't remember saying that stuff.
  • I'm not a fan of shower games so my SIL came up with non-goofy ones.

My favorite was the spice game.  They put different herbs and spices in generic containers and everyone had to smell or taste them and write down what they thought each one was.

Another one, she had a tray full of house stuff (pineapple corer, spatula, tongs, etc.) and showed it to everyone when then walked in.  Then later on in the shower people had to write down what they remember seeing on the tray.

Another one, was the purse game.  She had a list of items, we got into groups of three, she called out each item on her list and if a group had that item they got a certain amount of points.  The group with the most points won.  The list had random stuff on it too like a flashlight, toenail clippers, sewing kit, etc.

Oh, I like the spice game, Shay. I've got a huge spice rack, so that could work. I've played the purse game before, that was fun.
  • I remember two shower games that I specifically liked participating in during bridal showers that I've gone to:

    1) There was a vase placed on the floor about 6 feet from the starting line. Each participant would place a coin (quarter, nickel, dime, whatever you choose) between their knees and had to walk the distance to the vase without dropping it. Whoever got the coin into the vase successfully won a prize.

    2) The party hostess had pulled 10-15 ads from magazines and cut out the brand/advertiser's name and the participants had to guess which brands the ads were for. Whoever got the most correct won a prize.

  • The two we did at my very low key shower were:
1- 8 smelly candles with labels covered with numbers.  You had to match the scent with the candle name.  BTW: Vanilla = easy, Morning rain = no easy!
2- Tissue paper bride with tape and generic barbies.  Each team of 2 got a doll, tissue and tape and had to make the best dress they could.  Bride comes into the room and chooses the best dressed bride.

    LOVE the Chore game!

Omg, the chore game is hilarious! I think we'll do that one.
  • The "mini-brides" game was a hit at my shower (Mom's friends, so ladies who are 40-60).

Cut our pictures of wedding dresses and models from bridal magazines and then glue on famous celebrity faces, the people have to guess who the celebrity is.  It was harder than I expected, especially when the face (not hair) was glued onto the wedding dress model.  Snooki, Modonna, Kate Hudson, and Rachel Ray all made an appearance at my shower.  There was a prize for the person who got the most right and for the person who got the least right.

This example only uses half faces (like eyes or lips) so it might be better for a younger, hipper crowd: http://pinkpetalseventdesign.blogspot.com/2009/02/bridal-shower-game-celebrity-brides.html

  • I was just at a shower that had a pretty good game that I haven't played before.

Guests pair up in teams of 2 or 3. Each team is given about 15-20 coffee filters, 10 wood squers (like the kind you use for shishkabobs - sorry that's probably a massive spelling error) and a thing of scotch tape.Teams must create a bouquet for the bride out of their materials. Give them about 10 minutes.

Teams then "present" their bouquet to the bride saying why the bouquet is a reflection of her (ahaha.. so much crap was made up at my friends shower) and the bride picks the winning team. Prizes awarded to the winners.

We also did bridal word scramble at the shower as well. I find this better then bridal bingo as I'm good at scrambles and can usually win. I like to win.

  • We had an ice luge at our Jack and Jill, and the guys went out and did an ice luge shot while we opened their gifts. Then we all went out and did ice luge shots. That was the only game we played. MOH is throwing my baby shower and the subject of an ice luge has come up again. I am jealous I will be unable to partake.

We may have been doing it wrong. :)

  • I've also played The Price is Right game.

Household items are shown one at a time (spatula, tea towel, bath towel, collinder, etc) and a small description is given of each item including the brand name. Guests write down their price guesses and then go onto the next item. At the end of the game the prices are revealed and the person with my most correct guesses (withint $0.25 but not over or whatever limit you want to set) wins. The bride gets all the items.

  • The purse game was actually suprisingly fun at my shower :)

I didn't read the rest of the thread (so forgive me if something similar has been suggested), but we played an awesome game at my shower. We had 5 bottles of wine from around the world, covered the labels with construction paper and put them on a table next to a globe. We numbered the bottles, then provided little plastic shot glasses for everyone to taste-test each bottle. They then took a little sticky tab (we just cut different coloured post-it pads into strips) and wrote their name and the number of  a bottle of wine on the paper, and placed it on the globe where they thought the wine was from. The winner (whoever got the most correct, or really, whoever chose the closest) got a gift certificate to the LCBO (liquor store). And, it's easily adaptable with beer or even juices if you wanted to go alcohol-free.

It was really different, and everyone loved it.

Sorry I didn't read through all the other responses so I don't know if these have already been listed but I was just at a bridal shower this weekend and this is what was played...

1 - How Well Do You Know The Couple ... a list of like, 25ish questions ranging from "where did they meet?" to "what's the name of the groom's dog?"
2 - What Was She Thinking? ... a list of topics and multiple choice answers that are song or movie titles. i.e. "When he first forgot her birthday..." and then like, 4 choices which I can't think of any good ones off the top of my head (This can be found online) and beforehand you have the bride fill out an answer key
3 - We passed around a piece of paper... The person that started wrote the first line of the poem, the second person looked at the first persons line and wrote the second line of the poem but covered up the first person's line so the third person only saw the second persons and wrote something after that (so you can only see the person who wrote before you) and it turned out to be a very funny poem
4 - The MOH wrote down phrases the Bride said while opening gifts (without telling her). At the end she announced the list to the guests as "These may be some of the things the Bride may say on her wedding night" ... such as "Wow it's bigger than I expected!" and "Oh what a grip this has!" and "They're made of rubber? Awesome!" -- everyone was laughing the entire time when she read off the list because the bride had NO IDEA
(Those all can be 'played' while the bride is opening gifts, though)

5 - We played a game where there were 4 teams of 4 people (16 people playing). 1 person on each team held the end of a broom stick between their legs... 30 feet away their teammates stood in a line. One at a time your teammates would put on a fake veil and put a roll of toilet paper between their legs and run over to their teams stick and try to put the roll on the pole without using hands (and then the next person would go... and so on) -- that was a riot. My team one and I was with the groom's step mom I had never met!
6 - "Things To Wear On The Honeymoon" - the Bride was blindfolded and had to take items out of a bag one by one and put them on. They included flippers, a snorkel, a wig, and a silk tank top and matching shorts (which was so amusing to watch her put those on AFTER she had flippers on AND she was wearing a dress)
    7 - Purse game -- which I see was already listed. [:

  • The purse game was a big hit at my shower.  But my BM's didnt call things out.  They had lists with points at each place setting and when people started arriving they started playing.  It was a great way to get people talking to each other.  The best part was when one of H's older aunts asked BIL if he had a condom on him because she really wanted to win!  The person with the most points won.

The winner got the centerpiece (which was a big basket shaped like a coffee mug filled with coffee goodies)

  • Oh- my cousin did the spice game at her shower.  The only downfall to it was they had all these random spices that no-one knew what they were!  I think the winner only got 4 out of 20.  The game would have been fun if they were a bit easier/more common spices!

We did this too.  People were really excited for it.  I had a lot of people at my shower which meant a lot fo gifts to open!  So it kept people engaged.

  • We did a word jumble. It was all wedding related words or phrases. One of the jumbled words was supposed to be shower. A couple people seriously wrote whores. It was hilarious.

We did a complete the phrase thing where they were trying to match what I'd filled out earlier.

We also did wedding related scategories since that's one of my favorite board games. We used S, since that is what his last name starts with. The prompts were things like something you bring on the honeymoon, etc. That was a huge hit. Granted, it may have been a huge hit because we all play normal scategories regularly. I can send you the list of prompts if you'd like.
