Escort cards....

So it's too early to make them out since we don't have RSVP's yet, but I'm just designing the escort cards and I came upon an issue....

When you invite a couple who is not married, do you put both of their names on one card or do they each get their own card?
Is "& Guest" appropriate only when you don't know the name of the guest?
For instance, Dan's friend Stefano's card will read "Mr. Stefano C & Guest"  whereas our friends Hugh and Ashley's would read "Mr. Hugh C & Ms. Ashley S"  rather than "Mr. Hugh C & Guest"  ?  I'm confused because Hugh's our friend and we only met his gf through him, I think we're addressing the invite to Hugh & guest....is that ok?  They don't live together, should I put her name on the envelope with his?

We don't have many unwed couples coming, but there are a few and I was confused...

Re: Escort cards....

  • I'm dumb.

    What's an escort card?

  • Try to get the names of the guests if you can.  It is a nice touch your guests will appreciate.  If they don't give you a name or don't know who they are bringing.. and guest is fine.  Start asking as you receive your response cards.

The number of cards depends on the size of your wedding.  I have a 300 guest list (eek!) and it would take too long for people to locate their card.  So I am doing cards with both names on it.
This way is good if you don't know who selected which dinner (if you gave guests a choice).  So I can write Mr. and Mrs. X, table Y, chicken & beef (vs trying to figure out whether the wife wanted the chicken or beef)

Finally, consider any restrictions your location put on you about dinner selections.  Mine allowed me to decide how I wanted to indicate meal selection, but sometimes they make you color coordinate the card.  In this case, you will want to separate cards.
  • Escort cards escort you to the table.. basically table assignments.. and are located at the entrance

Place cards tell you which seat you are at and are found on the table
  • I did a separate card for eahc guest.
When you invite a couple who is not married, do you put both of their names on one card or do they each get their own card?  I'd put both full names on the card, separate lines, with no "and" between the names.
Is "& Guest" appropriate only when you don't know the name of the guest?  If you can't find out the name, yes, but do your best to find out first.
For instance, Dan's friend Stefano's card will read "Mr. Stefano C & Guest"  whereas our friends Hugh and Ashley's would read "Mr. Hugh C & Ms. Ashley S"  rather than "Mr. Hugh C & Guest"  ? No "and" if the couple is unmarried.  "and" denotes marriage.
I'm confused because Hugh's our friend and we only met his gf through him, I think we're addressing the invite to Hugh & guest....is that ok?  Do you know Hugh's GF's name?  If you do use it.  If not, yes that is fine.
They don't live together, should I put her name on the envelope with his? Yes, separate lines, no and between them.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • AATB - Escort cards have the guest's names on them and their seating assignment (and apparently, their food choices)

Thanks PharmBride, I didn't consider putting food choices on the cards, I've never seen that before.  It makes sense though.  I will definitely try to get the guest's name, that is a really nice touch to be a name instead of an anonymous guest.  We're having about half the crowd you had, but I'm tying all of the escort cards to honey dippers (to match the jar of honey favors I made) and I'm only doing one per couple (and obviously single people get their own) so the fewer cards I have to worry about, the better I guess :)

  • As someone who was an "and Guest" for 7 years with the same guy... it always stung a bit when it said "and Guest" especially since FI and I had been a serious couple for so long.  And a lot of times the weddings we went to where I was "and Guest" was for a good friend of his, or a family member of his.  Definitely people that I had met numerous times!

  • Recovering  -- OUCH.  That would sting me, too.  Do you have an unusual name?  Maybe they were too embarassed to ask after knowing you for so long?
