slower than slow today

Is it just me or is it a slow day on SB? I have been waiting for something exciting to happen all day, no luck.
Anyone here? Anyone not here?

  • Marco...   Marco...

i know, I've been waiting for something to keep me entertained tonight.
Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back"? "Empire". Blasphemy. "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.
  • lol the Marco comment made me picture myself in a pool playing Marco Polo alone. Well lets kick it up a notch in here. Anything exciting happen to you this weekend?

  • Nothing really noteworthy. FI was home less than 48 hours, so he suprised me with a beautiful dinner last night before I took him to the airport.

  • It has been ridiculously slow, but it's let me get some house work done so there is that.

I've just been crocheting while hitting refresh in the hopes that people magically appear...
  • I've been watching Armageddon doing the same thing.

My mom taught me how to crochet when I was little. I can still do the basics, but I would love to learn how to follow a pattern or make things besides scarves and potholders. lol.  I've always wanted to learn how to knit too.

I dont think its been that slow at all, there are quite a few posts longer than 1pg long so that = activity to me.
  • Nothing happened to me this weekend at all. I drove 3.5hrs to be with my FI this weekend only to be informed that he was working the entire weekend and was shipped across the country yesterday. I spent 2hrs on my hand and knees steam cleaning his carpets with the steam cleaner attachment since the actual thing is broken, I only got half of the living room cleaned.

Oh, after i dropped him off at the airport yesterday I started to make my way home and missed the freeway entrance and spent 45mins lost in downtown San Diego trying to find the effing freeway! It was so stressful because comic-con was this weekend so i was ended up by the convention with half a zillion people in costumes trying to cross the street while me and 3 other cars almost got hit by a train and had to run a red light to save ourselves since none of the people were nice enough to get out of the middle of the street.

I guess that was sort of exciting.

  • I just learned how to read patterns this year and it has made it so much more fun. Go check out youtube or e-how and they have video demonstrations of the stitches. Once you figure out what is what there is so much you can do.

We get our new living room furniture tomorrow, and got our tax credit today! *happy dance*
  • I love to crochet. But I also work for a company that publishes crochet magazines/books, so that's why. I'm currently working on designs for a skirt and an afghan.

    What is everyone crocheting?

    I'll have to try that.

Congrats on the refund, it seems like you had to wait a long time. Glad it finally came for you!

my Mom collected patterns almost obsessively. She loved to make afghans. She made some of the most beautiful "pineapple" tablecloths ever. I just want to be able to fix mine/FI's afghans.

  • I feel like I've been slow today. Honestly I barely remember any of the threads from earlier today. I'm so tired but haven't even been able to nap. Fvcking insomnia.

Right now H and I are watching Doubt. He's working on his business finances, so I'm entertaining myself online. I can't wait to see my mom tomorrow, and for Whisky to get his stitches out. Poor guy's been suffering with the cone for a week now.

And I'm rambling. I'll stop now.
  • I just finished a privacy shawl (I'll get pics when my camera charges) and now I'm working on making this baby blanket

except I'm using a gradient blue to green yarn and white with pink flecks.
  • I want to know how to do all of that. I tried to learn how to knit once upon a time but I don't have that much patience.

  • I have to focus on the task at hand, with no distractions, or I lose count.

  • Jel, I couldn't get the hang of crocheting until I was 21, then it magically came to me. I had tried ever since I was 15 but could never get it. I still can't knit at all.

These guys aren't too bad for counting, but when I make my little Arigumi creatures I have to lock myself in a room with no distractions or its all over.
  • My Dad and I have been looking for someplace that would take all her pattern books and kits and all of her craft stuff, since she passed away. It's been sitting in boxes since 2006, and we can't find anywhere to take/send it. I would hate for it to all end up in the trash which is why it's still sitting.

  • Could be :)

Carethb, do you have any knitting/crocheting clubs near you? Or maybe yarn stores where you could ask if anyone is interested? I know my mom's club would love them but St. Louis to VA could be a bit far haha.

I'm now looking at my friend's registry and feeling sad for her. Almost all of the items are over $80, but so far the only thing purchased off the registry is a single dish towel. Her wedding is a week from Saturday. I'm trying to decide what to get her. I'm definitely not spending a ton, but I feel bad getting her a cake pan or towel.

care - do you have a senior services agency in town?  We have one called Silver Key, and they have a store and an outlet for all kinds of crafty stuff.  I donated boxes of yarn and needlework/craft kits that I know I will never get around to completing.  They loved the donation - some of it will be sold in their store, and some of it will go to seniors who need something to do.

As fas as I know there aren't any clubs around, and I've talked to some of the ladies in the stores that I know of in the area. Maybe, after all the wedding crazy is over, you could put me in touch with your Mom's club, and I could just send them a box or two. If they used it that would be great, if not, then I'll feel like I've tried. I wouldn't mind paying the shipping on that. She had some amazing stuff from the late 40's through 2004 when she stopped going to stores.

Wow, everyting is over $80? Maybe you could get a couple of things and put together a basket of sorts. Like a breakfast basket or baking basket, with little stuff in there. I guess if she didn't register for it, if you know her well enough, you could pick some things out.

That's a great idea. I'll try to see if there is anything like that around here. There's so much that she left, unopened kits and yarn and books and all the accessories. I would just like for it to bring someone the happiness it brought her.

  • Yeah, in her defense both her fiance and her are moving out of parent's houses and into their own, so they really are starting with nothing. But still...don't put a $200 rug on your registry, you know?

    Threadjacking :(
What is the average wedding gift price range in your area?  Is it customary to bring gifts or just give cash?

ETA: I meant I was threadjacking here :)

Absolutely. We've been living together for a year now, and there is a lot that we could use or upgrade. Each time we registered, the store sales people really emphasized have multiple price points. They even went as far as to do the math for us. How many guests= how many gifts= x amount of $100+, x amount of $50-100, x amount of />$50.

For one of our showers, a couple of friends got together and made us a breakfast basket: an omlette pan, whisk, spatula, trivet, and bowl.  It was great.
